TGIT

Almost the weekend...woohoo!  I am in a great mood today.  Last night I had a work event at a casino.  I'm not a fan of serious gambling, of course, but I figure $20 toward playing some games isn't bad.  I brought my $20 and decided I'd just play slots.  Walked out with $800!!!!  I've decided to save half for Christmas shopping, and to give myself to other half for some new clothes that I desperately need.  So excited!!!  What are your fav stores to buy clothes and shoes?

What's everyone else up to?

Re: TGIT

  • That is so awesome!!! :D That's really exciting!

I like shopping at The Limited, JC Penney, and Macy's. They tend to have good staple pieces I can mix and match.

  • That's awesome!  I have terrible luck with gambling, so I usually don't bother, but I will chip in for pull tabs occasionally.  Some friends have tried to teach me the ins and outs of blackjack (it's at most of the bars around here so you can pretty much play anywhere we go out) but I just haven't picked up on it yet.

Clothes shopping will be fun!  I really like H&M for everything, New York & Company has good work attire, and Forever 21 usually has some fun things and is pretty affordable.  I've been stalking a lot of items at The Limited, but just haven't felt like I can afford to buy any of it while saving for the wedding.  However, for Christmas my bosses usually give the staff a gift card to the mall for $200-300,  so I know where mine will be spent :)

Side note - I'm down to single digits now, only 9 days until the wedding.  Eeek!!

PPs have good suggestions for clothes. My favorite out-of-my-price range stores are Banana Republic and Ann Taylor (or Loft), so I do keep an eye on their sales. I also love Gap and Old Navy for basics. If you're willing to dig, TJ Maxx and Marshall's have some good bargains.

For shoes, I got spoiled by good shoes when I sold them for a season of my life. I tend to hit discounters looking for bargains. DSW is always great for selection. I've been pleased with the spin-off brands at Famous Footwear lately (they have affordable "lower end" versions of better shoes). Good or decent shoes make such a big difference when it comes to comfort, and they generally last a lot longer.

Edit: my baby-didn't-sleep-well brain failed to mention that today is the most beautiful weather we've had in months. It's raining, and the high is only supposed to be 90,  with a drop into the 70s tomorrow!

And Erin, single digits = eeeeee!

  • Erin -- AAAHAHHHHH! It's SO close!  How are you feeling?

Biblio -- raining=nice?!  I hate rain, unless I get to stay in and eat chili and drink tea while watching some great movie like Gone with the Wind.

I like Ross annd TJMaxx a lot.  I also really like Target clothes.  Oh, and NY&Co is a great suggestion, too.  I I love Express, and they have good coupons sometimes.  Their jeans fit me better than most places, and they have nice cardigans and such.  I used to find myself dressed completely in Express clothes, but that doesn't happen quite as much anymore.

    Yay for single Digits!!

I had a coupon for $25 off $50 at The Limited, which I earned last time I shopped. I went in there Monday, and everything was 40% off. I got a pair of dark green skinny jeans and a necklace for $27 total. The pants retailed at $75. I will never pay that much for jeans, especially in a trendy color...Actually, I rarely pay full price for anything. I love bargains.

I bought my sister jewelry for her Maid of Honor gown, that I had been eyeing up for weeks at Macy's. On Monday it was 65% off, plus another 10% with my Macy's card. I was thrilled.

I'm feeling pretty good - some little things left to do, but I feel like I have a handle on everything.  My biggest worry right now is the weather, I just don't want it to be freezing that day!

I've had good luck at Express for dress pants, haven't tried on their jeans at all though.  My new favorite jeans are the Skinny Kick from American Eagle - I've pretty much abandoned all my other jeans for the two pairs of those I bought!

I'm still on the hunt for some black skinny pants, maybe I can find something this weekend. I was hoping to have some to wear for our rehearsal, but I have a back-up outfit planned in case I don't find anything new that I like.
  • I want black skinny pants, too!  Lmk if/where you find them.  As for AE jeans, that was all I wore in my few couple years of college.  I stopped, though, because my body type changed so much and they didn't seemt to have a good fit for me anymore.  I might try them again, though, because most companies change their fits a bit from year to year.  Express jeans are awesome, though.  I am annoyed because theyseem to carry the low and lower rise styles more than the mid-rise. Hopefully I'll be able to find some good ones, though!

I live in Arizona, so rain is novel. I love, love, love it, but am sure I would grow weary of it in a place where it rained more frequently. Most people who live here long enough grow to love it for its relief from the heat and bringing much-needed water to our water tables. By this time each year, I am so sick of the sun and the heat and my summer clothes that I'm dying for any little hint of cooler weather, like today.

  • Have you always lived in Arizona?  I guess it makes sense that no rain would become tiresome.

  • Will do on the black skinny pants Resa!  I'll have to give Express jeans a try too, I think I've always avoided trying them on b/c I'm afraid I'll really like them, and I just don't want to pay that much for jeans.  I know a lot of my friends like them though, and they do have decent sales sometimes, so I'll keep them in mind.
  • AZ girl, born & raised! It's a rarity around here. Both of my parents were born and raised here, too, along with both of my mom's parents. My H was also born and pretty much raised here. Collectively, that is a freakish family -- so many Arizona natives!

  • Greetings from Newport, RI!  My hubs is out celebrating the last few bits of bachelorhood for the groom and I just got in from a delicious dinner and then being driven around to a few historic sites with a friend.

This area is just gorgeous.  I wish we had the opportunity to buy a summer home in the northeast.

Re. clothes: My faaaavorite stores are Loft and Banana Republic, although I rarely buy anything except "special occasion" dresses at BR.  I used to love Limited, but I feel like the quality of the fabrics they use changes so much it's hard to know when to shop there.  I recently bought a couple pairs of Levi's jeans at an outlet and they are my favorite jeans ever.  I used to wear Gap jeans, but the material is so thin they wear out in the most awkward places (try making it through almost a whole day of teaching and realizing you have a hole in the seat of your pants).
