Church cannot find communion certificate

So my fiance and I have have done our first communion but need to get confirmed.  He called his church and they can't find proof of his first communion. He doesn't have anything to prove that he did his first communion either, just pictures.  If he they ask him to do it over, he is NOT going to do it.  I really wanted us to do our confirmations together and have the nuptial mass.  I guess that might not happen.  Need to call my priest to see what we can do but just want to warn you ladies, make sure you check if your church has your papers before you make plans!!

you don't "Do over" a first communion. A first communion is the first time someone takes communion.

I don't understand why someone would "refuse"???

That should not be a problem at all. The Sacrament is actually the Eucharist itself, so you receive the Sacrament of Communion every time you go to Mass and receive. Just because he can't prove when and where his "first" was shouldn't matter since he receives communion probably every time he goes to Mass now. I'm confused by this one...

If anything, and your priest still needs some kind of "proof" that you can't provide, he can just receive when he is confirmed and in the official documents that would be his "First Communion." Doesn't mean he needs to wear white or walk in a line with the second graders or anything... you'll be confirmed at a Mass so it will just be part of the Mass. Just talk things over with your priest and I shouldn't think there's any problem here...

Everything will be with his baptismal certificate? The church that baptizes you keeps track of all the rest of the sacraments, no matter where you complete them. Has he checked with the parish in which he was baptized? He may need to ask his parents.

If they still can't find it, he needs to call the dioceses the church was in. Good luck.

This probably has happened before and you said that there were pictures so you do have proof. I would try calling the dioceses and explain what is going on. I'm sure someone can help you.

if you have been receiving at your church all along, i'm not sure why they need to see proof? obviously you had your first communion if youve been receiving.

That's weird.  My baptismal certificate did not have he Reconciliation and First Communion listed either.  The Deacon said it didn't matter because "most churches don't keep track of those sacraments.  Just baptism, confirmation, and marriage."

He said it wasn't a problem, just so long as I was baptized.

    How strange.

I wouldn't worry too much until you talk to the priest.  Neither mine nor my fiance's First Communion was on our Baptism certificate and they said it didn't matter.  So you may want to check with your priest about that one.  Don't freak out just yet.

This isn't always true actually.  I got baptized at a different Church I received my First Communion at.  When I went to gather my stuff the Church that I was baptized at had that certificate and not anything else.  I went to Catholic School when I received Communion and they were the ones that had that certificate.  My Fi's stuff was all together but he received all of his Sacraments at the same church.

Have you tried searching for your Fi under his parents names too?  They had my name on file but were also able to search under my P's names as well.  I find it strange that they would just lose it.  The Catholic Church is really good about keeping things on file.
