Happy Monday!

HI all!  I hope everyone had a great weekend!  I just had to share that FI and I had our marriage prep seminar this weekend, and it was such a great experience.  I was a little hesitant at first as I just didn't know what to expect, but I found it to be so helpful.  I really learned some things about the Catholic teachings, and it got FI and I talking about things that we really hadn't discussed in detail before.  They even included a portion of time where couples could sit together and talk/reflect, pray in the chapel, or go to confession.  FI and I took advantage of the option for confession, which was nerve-wracking because it had been a long time since either of us had gone, but I felt so much better afterwards.

Overall, I'm so glad that we went through this, and thankful that our diocese puts on such a wonderful program.  It really gave us a chance to talk about what we wanted out of our marriage, and now I just can't WAIT for October 20!

Re: Happy Monday!

  • That's so great, Erin!

Nothing much to report here.  H and I are still unpacking.  I'm doing boring stuff like getting quotes on window treatments today.

  • I am so glad that you had a great experience, Erin!

I had a great, busy weekend. My baby shower was on Saturday. Because of that, my family and a family who we are super-close with were all in town and had a really fun dinner together Friday night. We're scattered all over now, so we don't get to do that much anymore, so it was super fun!

My shower was also lovely -- ladies I love, lots of yummy sweets (it was a dessert spread), and an overwhelming amount of generosity via presents. After, we had an early-birthday dinner for my sister. Yesterday after mass, I got all our stuff organized, started laundry, etc. I'm feeling so much better about baby's upcoming arrival. I finally feel fully like she could arrive any time and things would be ok.

  • Professor -- are you loving your new house?  Are you both living there full-time now?  I'm so happy for you!!

My weekend was really nice, but not too eventful.  I didn't get any chores done around the house, so that means tonight I have a ton of laundry to do, as well as some tidying around the house.   Boring!

  • Resa -- yes!  It's so weird actually seeing my husband every day!  It's had it's ups and downs.  One of the back-up drains for a plumbing system got clogged with mud from all the construction and rain, so that was no fun, but otherwise it is soooo nice!

Yay Erin. I'm glad you had such a positive experience! And yay for the new house professor!

This weekend I finally got my engagement ring back from the jewelers! It was getting sized and we got a custom band made to fit it because it was FI's grandmothers ring and is kind of a unique shape. My engagement ring also has a pearl in the middle which makes it difficult to clean without damaging the pearl, but when we got it back it was the cleanest I have seen it and so sparkly. I can't stop staring at my finger again, lol.

I also have my final dress fitting tomorrow. I am thankful my mom is going to be able to come into town and go with me too. Things are moving fast now. Three more weeks of work for me then I'm off to St. Louis!

FI and I have also decided that we could really use more good friends, especially practicing Catholic friends. The parish we attend doesn't really have very many twenty or thirty somethings, so we decided to go to Christ in the City in DC this Thursday in attempt to meet some new people. It is adoration and then fellowship afterwards for young adults. So I'm excited for that.

  • Well I hope you get completely settled in fairly quickly!

Biblio -- I'm glad your shower went well :)  She's going to be here before you know it!!!  I'm glad you're feeling prepared!  I hope you're able to stay at least somewhat comfortable over these last few weeks.  Summer and pregnant don't always get along, from what I hear :P

Erin, how is your charting going?  I can't believe I'm only less than a month into Creighton, because already the observations seems so automatic.

  • Charting seems to be going pretty well, after my last follow-up I feel a lot better about my observations and understanding what I'm seeing.  It's interesting how quickly it just became part of my routine!  My only concern is that so far, I haven't really observed any Peak-type CM.  I'm trying not to get too worried at this point as I'm just a few months off of the pill, and I know it can do wacky things to your cycle for awhile.  So, we'll see how it goes for the next few months - hopefully things will straighten themselves out and I'll be able to see a better pattern.  I have my next follow-up tomorrow, so I'll discuss some of that with my teacher.

Prof - yay on the house!  My FI and I really want to move out of our condo and into a house, but I don't think that's in the cards anytime soon.

Tami87 - I love that you have an antique ring, I would've loved that!  Maybe in a few generations my ring will be the "antique" that gets passed down :)  Good luck in your search for other Catholic couples!  FI and I don't have many where both people are Catholic, or couples that really practice, and it would be nice to have more.
  • Tami -- I have my grandmother's engagement ring :)  It's from the 1960's (it's from her second marriage), so it's not SUPER old, but it's really sentimental to me.

Erin -- I am in the same boat!  I haven't had peak-type mucus yet, either.  Although I'm not coming off ABC, so I'm not sure what's going on with me.  My second follow up is on Friday.  It's nice talking to someone who is almost exactly where I am in Creighton instruction :)

  • I took FI up to CT over the weekend to meet most of my extended family...it was FI's first time on an airplane and he had to deal with about 30 of my relatives (his family hasn't talked to their extended family in about 15 years), but he was such a good sport and everyone was so welcoming to him.  Everyone was so excited to meet him and he was happy to really feel like part of the family!

I was in the exact same boat!  I met FI's parents, and about half of his extended family, at a wedding.  I'd been at FI's parents' house for about 2 minutes before his mom noticed I was looking at their family picture from FI's brother's wedding 10 years ago and said "oh, this may be the only wedding I ever get to see - no pressure"  She said it jokingly, but still, what a first impression!  It all went well though :)
  • Hello everyone!
I started my summer job today.  It's pretty dead here though (knock on wood).

I went to two weddings this weekend (one Friday, one Saturday) which was a blast.  I'm SOOOO anxious for ours.  I cannot believe it's next weekend already. AHHH!!!

Add me to this list.I had met his parent, but not his extended family. To make matters worse, at the end of the night, family pictures were being taken, and one of now-H's uncles asked if I thought there was a chance I could ever be part of the family! We had talked about marriage at that point, but also knew it was a ways down the road (we'd only been dating a few months, but were older and had a pretty good idea that this was it). My "uhhh maybe" was enough to get me added with all of the SOs to a set of pictures. Talk about awkward!!

<div>Hahaha!  I did not get grouped into any family pics until the ring was on my finger.  I used to joke with my MIL about it -- one of the things that made me finally feel like a member of their family was that she got me a stocking with my name embroidered on it the Christmas after we got engaged.  I teased her that it took her long enough and she replied, "Well, you could've said no!"  Yeah, right.</div>

  • Chels -- it's getting so close! Yay!

Prof -- so exciting to be getting settled in a new place. Good luck at the women's group tonight.

Ressa and Erin -- I'm so glad that you're starting to get the hang of Creighton. :) It really does become automatic, but I think a lot of people don't believe you when you tell them that before they start.
