Dress shopping

Im from York and I am looking for suggestions as to where I should go to look for a gown. I dont even have any idea as to what type I am looking for other than I would like Strapless.

I am sure I will go to lela's on E. Market St, but other than that does anyone have suggestions? I am not very girly- and I dont want to spend an arm and a leg on my wedding dress. Id like to stay in the York/Harrisburg/Lancaster/Hershey area.

Thank you =)

I went to three places and had good experiences at all of them. I think they had different strenghts:

Tara's Bridal in Camp Hill- sells sample gowns at super discounts. Very inexpensive, condultants are great, but selection is more limited.

Gowns by Design in Mechanicsburg- Have some gorgeous dresses (!) but a little pricier.

Taylored for You in Mechanicsburg- This is where I got my dress. Great selection, reasonable prices, Taylor is awesome!

Good luck and have fun :)

Ok I don't have a clue what your budget is but here is everywhere I went in York and Lancaster counties and my opinions:

In White Bridal - This is where I got my dress. Its a newer shop but they have a great (and ever changing) selection, a very wide range of prices, and Sherry will take care of you. As you can tell, I went to a LOT of dress shops. I walked into In White and said "I've been in so many dresses I don't even know what I want anymore." I gave her my budget, date and location and dress #2 was the one!
Directions: take Rt. 30 East, get off at Harrisburg Pike and take it into Lancaster across from F&M college/ beside Iron Stone Brewery.

Lilla's - LOVE HER! My MOH got her dress there. Dresses start at $800 but she'll take care of you. However, she is out right now to have a tumor removed. She'll be back in March and her store is still open. Her daughter in law (I think) is also pretty nice and is running things in the mean time.

Bridal Emporium - on the main drag in Elizabethtown. GREAT selection, great service, just didn't have my dress

Krys Lynns - On the corner of Market and Newberry - good selection and prices, they just didn't have my dress

Rennaisance (across ish from the York Heritage Trust on Market) - EXPENSIVE (no dress less than $1200) and they were mean to my MOH

Premier Bridal in Shiloh on Rt. 74 - its just Alfred Angelo sold by a private retailer.

David's Bridal - Its in the "newer" shopping center near D*cks Sporting Goods. All I can say is that its a Davids.

Alfred Angelo on Fruitville Pike in Lancaster - Small, trashy, no selection

Reifsnyders - its in down town Lancaster. Alright shop, just didn't have my dress.

Weddings By Paulette - in Millersville. OK selection and service

All of this contact info can be found by googling bridal shops in york or in lancaster.

    Happy shopping!!!! :)

I've bought dresses from David's Bridal in York and my bridesmaids got their dresses there as well and I've always had great customer service. It's best not to go on a Saturday though.

I second SCBojangles on Alfred Angelos in Lancaster.  My consultant was not pleasant and she kept bringing me the wrong dresses (as in I asked for certain dresses and she wouldn't bring them in the room).  One of my friends just started working there and told me they fired a lot of their old sales staff, so it might be worth a trip to check it out.  If so, ask for Hollie and tell her Amber sent you!

I ordered my dress from J & B Bridal in Chambersburg.  It's a pretty good drive, but SO worth it.  They can order any dress you want and they'll work with any price range.  My consultant, Jackie, was awesome! She was patient and never pushed me into anything.  Plus, I got a great deal on my dress because I ordered it during one of their many trunk shows! They also have bridesmaids dresses, Mother dresses and tuxes. I HIGHLY recommend checking them out!

    Hope that helps!

I love Taylored for you in Mechanicsburg, the staff there is fabulous.  I didn't find Tara's Bridal to be any less expensive though but I was just there for bridesmaid dresses and was only upstairs, all of the dresses up there were over $2,000.

I got my dress at Renaissance Bridals in York despite some negative comments I've heard from them.  My recommendation is to schedule after work during the week.  Saturdays are so swamped that sometimes they might just be running around trying to accomodate everyone.  It was just me there on a Wednesday evening and they were absolutely 100% amazing.
