New Co-Mod!

Please welcome your new co-mod, Riss!

Mica stepped in temporarily until we could get Riss all lined up and ready to go. We already know she is awesome, and I look forward to serving with her!

Also, now that I am done with my wedding craziness, let us know what you'd like to see in a sticky (you can write in this thread)!

:-) Happy to be here!

Let's brainstorm which topics should be included in a sticky and then we can further collaborate on what details need to be mentioned for each topic. Here are some "big picture" items I think we need to have background on:

Links to:
Wedding Program Templates
Canon Law

Info On:
Pre-Cana/FOCCUS/Engaged Encounter
Annulments
Getting Married Outside
Catholics Marrying Non-Catholics
Natural Family Planning (NFP)

What other "big topics" do we need to address?

That seems like a lot for one sticky, unless it was just a few links to information about each topic.

I think something really helpful would be the difference between the two types of ceremonies one can have in a Catholic church, and who might want which. As someone who was previously not Catholic, I have really enjoyed this board for insight into why certain rituals exist in the church and what to expect in my Catholic ceremony.

Also: Congrats, Riss!

I was thinking we'd list the topics and they'd be hyper-linked to more info, so there wouldn't be a ton of info in the actual sticky.

Yay! Welcome Riss.

I would definitely vote to include a link to catholicweddinghelp.com and think a link to info on NFP would be great, in addition to seconding info on annullments, ceremony v. mass, outdoor weddings, and marrying non-Catholics.

Maybe also a running info sticky for people to post their music and reading choices.

Congratulations Riss!

I recommend some sort of disclaimer that this is a public message board, so the moderators and TK cannot control who posts and what kinds of answers they give or tone of voice they use. Also, since this is the Catholic Wedding board, posters should expect that answers will be more consistent with Catholic beliefs.

Welcome, Riss! The sticky list seems to be pretty thorough, so I've got nothing to add :)

I made a program outline I thought might be useful in a previous thread.

Also, I have concerns about direct links to canon law. The canons are very intricate in their interpretation and application that I think might turn someone away because they would misinterpret it. Anyone can google canon law of course, but if we link to it, I think that there needs to be a disclaimer about it.

Good point, I was thinking of linking right to the Canon law on the vatican's site: http://www.vatican.va/archive/ENG1104/_INDEX.HTM

What kind of disclaimer should we use?

Suggestion for Disclaimer:

"There is much more to the interpretation of canon law than how it may appear to read. Each individual situation, especially regarding marriage law, has very specific details that need to be taken into consideration by a qualified person. Please consult a Catholic priest who will guide you."

What about different stickies for different topics, or an FAQ stickie to cover the big ones (getting married outside, annulments, etc.)?

Congrats, welcome, thank you!

On the disclaimer, I concur with recommending they consult their priest, and their diocese tribunal, for questions specific to their parish or diocese. As I've said many times, I've found the tribunal the best source for questions about annulments, since they deal with them all the time.

Yay Riss!

I know that some sites on The Nest have started a bio with FAQs and useful information. For example, the Decorating & Renovating board has a bio with lots of great inspiration pictures, and the Pets board has a bio with info about pet foods and training. If this seems like too much info for one sticky, perhaps a simple Google Sites bio would be a good spot.

Feel free to say if that seems overkill of course... not trying to create work or anything!

I'd like to suggest a list of readings and music... it could be as simple as all of us adding the readings and music we used/will use in our own weddings. It would be nice to see it all in one place.

Alternatively, maybe you could post a sticky with say, top 10 questions (e.g. "One of us is Catholic and the other is not, can we get married in the Catholic church?"). Then for each of those questions start a thread where anyone can answer. Then in the sticky, you could link to those threads.

I like the idea of a Top 10 FAQ that includes the talk to your priest disclaimer.

I also think a Post your Music and Readings here sticky would be great. That way everyone has a place to look for ideas/info/inspiration, and people can add to it as they make decisions.
