Sunday wedding question...

If you get married in the Catholic Church on a Sunday (with a full Mass), do you need to use the readings for that Sunday or can you pick your own?

If you are getting married on a Sunday, you must use that day's readings from the Lectionary.

You'll have to talk with your priest.  We married on a Sunday, but as my priest considered our (non-Mass) ceremony a private event, he allowed us to pick our own readings.

This.  My wedding is a Saturday evening, so we should have to use the readings for that week, but our priest is allowing us to pick our own readings.

ETA:  Ours is actually a Nuptial Mass (just saw that Mica's wasn't).  My cousin was married last summer (at a different church and with a different priest than we have) in a Nuptial Mass on a Saturday evening.  She picked her own readings AND the priest specifically announced at the end of mass that it "counted" for the weekly obligation.  This seemed weird/suspect to me, but I figured it did, since the priest explicitly said so.

Any mass after 4 PM on Saturday night, no matter what readings, "counts" for the Sunday obligation

Thanks, agapecarrie.  I figured that must be the case, but it still seems weird to me.
