Rite of Sending/Election

I will be going to the  the Archbishop to meet him and see the Cathedral on Sunday March 20th.

My church is having a Rite to Sending ceremony and then we will be going to the Rite to Election after church.

I am a little nervous about it. Has anyone gone through it and can share their experience with me?

TIA

I went through it a few years ago. Basically the Rite of Election is when the Bishop gives a talk and you go up, one by one and put your name into what is called the Book of the Elect. I believe we went in a certain order and our deacon (he led our RCIA class) told us all of that in the RCIA session right before the Rite of Election.

Just make sure your sponsor goes with you and you should be fine. I also remember having to have all of our paperwork (ie: baptismal certificate) and all of that turned in in order to be able to put our names in the book.

Good luck. This is such an awesome time of year. It brings back so many wonderful memories for me. I can't believe it will be 2 yrs next month since I was confirmed already. Our church had it last Sunday, but we didn't attend the Mass in which they had it.

I just did this this past weekend. It was great! It's nothing to be worried about. However, since I'm already baptized, I did not sign the book of the Elect. Overall, it was a lot of fun, so just enjoy yourself!

Yeah, I guess I don't remember signing the book either since I was already baptised Catholic. I just never got the rest of the sacraments.

I went through RCIA and received the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and 1st Communion all at the Easter Vigil last year. The Rite of Election was one of the highlights of my catechism experience, so be excited! Being in the cathedral with so many other people who were also working towards the same goal was invigorating, and the ceremony was lovely. You shouldn't be worried, there are so many people up there with you at the same time, and everyone present is there because they are supporting someone through the Rite, so its very comforting and joyful. Signing the book of the elect was quick and very crowded, I would recommend trying to take your time and reflect on what you're doing, rather than feeling rushed through...

Best of luck to you and congratulations!!

I went through RCIA last year - I was nervous before all of the rites because I didn't know much about them (the word "rite" sounded scary to me). I was worried that I would have to memorize things or that I would mess up, etc.

Signing my name in the book meant a lot to me. I was formally documenting my intentions and commitment.

I really cherish the RCIA experience and enjoy the bond that I built with my sponsor (FMIL). For the Rite of Election, our priest asked our RCIA group a few questions, and we responded "I will" or "I do". We did the same at the Easter Vigil.

I went through that last Sunday. It was really straightforward- nothing to be nervous about. Good luck!

You will love it...don't worry about looking silly or anything like that. I don't think we even needed to do anything, or at least not much of anything!

It was an incredible experience...all of those special occasions for RCIA just made the buildup to Easter that much more amazing. Again, you'll love it!
