Re: .

  • Ask your Priest, Im in the same boat, we have a good amount of guests who arent catholic, and a large number of C&E catholics who prob wont have a clue to about the changes in the church. Im going to ask our Priest at our next meeting for his suggestions on what depth of information he thinks we should include in the programs.
  • I have never heard of programs being required, although most Catholic brides opt for them, so if you do choose to have them, you really can include as much or as little info as you want.

  • Our programs were very detailed - basically mini-missals. We did this because we had a traditional mass in latin and most of guests wouldn't have been familiar with it.
  • I'm an Anglican Catholic. Our Mass Rite is a bit different in order and translation. I like to participate (outloud) when I attend Roman Catholic services, but I can't remember all the words, and I can't make heads or tails out of your missals. PLEASE put every word your guests should say or sing in your programs.
  • I kept our programs pretty simple.  They were just two-sided, 4x9 pages that I made on zazzle.  On one side I had the order of mass (with the things you mentioned, like Liturgy of the Word, Liturgy of the Eucharist), and on the other I put all the names of the participants.  It included readings and responses for the guests, but not much else.  We had a largely not-Catholic guest list, and I haven't heard any complaints.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Program Question : When you say that your program included responses, are you referring just to the responsorial psalm, or did you include everything down to "and with your spirit"?

<div>The former.  The priest went over the general order of the mass with everyone at the rehearsal and asked that we all sort of lead the rest of the congregation, but I only included responses to the readings and the psalm.</div>

  • We talked to our priest and then decided hoew much we thought was nessasary for our family and friends. If your family knows most of the traditional responses you shouldnt worry. Since a alot of our family is not practicing catholic we decided to have more details

[QUOTE]Okay great, I was starting to imagine a really hefty program if you included every single response :) Thanks for all the advice ladies!

Yeah.  I would have loved to have included all the songs, all the readings, all the instructions, but those programs really add up.  I think I spent less than $50 total on the programs I made, and they were fine!

  • Since the priest and I willl be the only Catholics in the room (both families are Mormon), I went with the in-depth programs, including all of the responses and the words to the Lord's Prayer. With the small-but-readable typeface I used, the program for the wedding without Mass took up two 5.5" x 8.5" pages.

Since none of the guests are Catholic, I put up an "Our Catholic Wedding" page on our wedding website so they will know what to expect. Also, since the parents and attendants will be at the rehearsal, I'm briefing them on where to find the responses so they ca help everyone else.

If you need that level of detail and you are having a Mass, I might refer the congregation to the right page in the missal instead of printing all the responses, as well as taking some of the other strategies I mentioned above. Good luck!
