Prayer of the faithful

Is there a standard prayer of the faithful or do we need to write our own? I know one thing I would like to include in it is a mention of my father, who died 25 years ago. Is there a standard one where I could just add that in?

There were standards in the book they gave us (I am blanking on the name) but I liked some of those and also wanted to include some of my own so I am picking and choosing which ones, which the church is ok with.

The book is probably "Together for Life". It can be found on Amazon if your church doesn't give/lend you a copy.

There are several standard ones that you can choose from, among them a prayer for those who have died. The wording is something like "For those who have died, especially ___". Our priest told us to feel free to write our own if we wanted to. I think we did tweak some of the ones in the book but stuck to their intent for the most part.

Yeah, our parish gave us a copy of Together for Life (which also made picking readings a snap).  We made some modifications but went with the general theme of the lists in the book.

Thank you for reminding me of the book name!! I couldn't for the life of me think of it!  I normally just call it the book!

Our priest wrote ours.  But it sounded pretty standard, pretty much out of Together for Life.  He did mention the names of the people we lost (at our request).  A special one for me and DH, and one for all married couples or soon-to-be married couples, as well as some of the traditional ones you hear at Sunday Mass.

The deacon who assisted at our Wedding Mass wrote them up!  Our parish had a standard baseline that they went from and he added some intentions at our request including the prayers for the poor, victims of injustice, the unborn, our engaged friends, and the military (fi's sister in the army and couldn't attend wedding).

We also tweaked the prayers offered in Together for Life. We added a couple and changed a few, which was our priest's suggestion.

We wrote ours which I loved doing because we could make them so personalized....

For Pope Benedict the XVI and the leaders of our Church, that they may lead us to deeper faith in God and a stronger love for others, we pray to the Lord.

 

For President Barack Obama and members of the United States Government, that they may work together to find ways to stabilize, secure, and improve our great country. We pray to the Lord.

 

For married people, to those that have been an example to Megan and Malachy, and in the hopes that they will be a couple who can be an example to others, we pray to the Lord.

 

For the future of the arts and arts education. That children and audiences be able to study and enjoy music in schools and concert halls always. We pray to the Lord.

 

For teachers, that they may share their knowledge with gentleness, patience, and enthusiasm to foster their students’ love of learning. We pray to the Lord.

 

For all those here today, in Thanksgiving that they were able to travel and celebrate with Megan and Malachy on this important day in their lives. We pray to the Lord.

We wrote our own/borrowed one from a favorite prayer:

For the strength of marriages and all loving relationships, we pray to the Lord.

For the lonely, that they find the warmth of human companionship, and for all of us, that we might walk in the company of friends as we go through life, we pray to the Lord.

For the physically and mentally ill, that they might find healing, we pray to the Lord.

For the children of those here, and all children everywhere, that they might grow strong and happy in the light of their parents’ love.
