invite the music director?

I know we invite the priest to the rehearsal and reception, but do we also invite the music director? He will be singing and playing the organ. Thing is, theres a rehearsal and wedding right after ours so we know he won't be able to come. Should we anyway to be polite? What do you think?

Re: invite the music director?

  • No. I'm a music director, and I always feel weird when people invite me to their reception. (People rarely do.)
(If you're paying them to be there, and you're not otherwise "friends" with them, then it's a job for them, and you don't have to treat them otherwise.)

  • Thank you so much for your input! What better person to answer than another music director? Can I ask you another question? He is paid from our $1000 Church fee. Should I give him anything in addition?? What do most people do for you? If you don't feel comfortable answering on here, can you pm me? Thank you so much!
  • If he is paid from the church fee, then you really aren't obligated to give anything else. But, if you are particularly happy with the music or working with him, then it would be very nice to give a little something extra, maybe a gift card or some cash.
