Strapless cover up

My wedding dress is lace strapless, so I'm looking for something to cover my shoulders. What are you guys with strapless dresses wearing? I want a cute jacket or something, but it's hard to have something that will match well and not take away from the dress.

I didn't wear anything, but you should be able to find a bolero or a wrap at almost any bridal store.

You could also see if whoever is doing your alterations can either make something for you or add straps/sleeves to your gown.

I didn't wear a cover up, either...my priest was fine with my wearing a strapless dress:

I also had a strapless dress, and our priest was fine with it. I would look for a bolero or wrap at any bridal store or online. Good luck.

Update: A girlfriend of mine who got married in September bought a bolero at David's Bridal.

If your dress is all lace, you should really go with something very simple so that the focus will stay on your gown.  I would think just a satin shrug would be best.

I didn't wear anything over my dress either and the church was ok with it.  It was August and I was already dying of heat in my dress!  I know David's Bridal has a lot, also ask the store you bought your dress from, they should be able to help with one that matches!

Can you have lace straps made?  That is what I am doing.  And my friend also had straps made for her Catholic wedding.

A quick search on etsy.com shows pages of boleros!

I'd bet you could easily contact a designer, e-mail a picture of your gown and have something created to match perfectly.

All of the above are good suggestions. Another option--sometimes designers will custom create you something. I bought a lace strapless dress by Casablanca, and Casablanca made me a bolero to match. I chose the sleeve length and then they made it from the same lace as my dress. I loved it, and wore it all day! There's a picture below, if you want a better pic there are a couple uploaded on my profile I think.

  • I had my seamstress add a top to my strapless dress, essentially.  It didn't cover my shoulders, but it did cover pretty much everything else.  It helped that my seamstress was super reasonable price-wise!  The original dress was Mori Lee 2409 and she added a bateau neckline in tulle to not compete with the lace of the rest of my dress... see bio :)

The bolero suggestions above sould brilliant to me :)  I almost splurged on a lace etsy one myself, but it ended up being cheaper for me to go the dress-top-reconstruction route.
