Good Friday? Bad Friday.

My bridesmaids and I are in talks about my bachelorette party. The weekend would ideally go like this: my MOH (who lives about 6 hours away) would come to town and we'd spend the weekend together with the other BMs. One night would be the bachelorette party and the other night (while the guys have the bachelor party) we'd have movie night.

I was hoping to do this after Easter because I am giving up popcorn for Lent (that's a BIG sacrifice: my wind-down routine involves a book and a bag of Pop Secret) and I just generally think it's disrespectful to get buck wild during a time of sacrifice and meditation.

Problem is, the only time available for both the girls who are throwing the bash and the MOH is.....TA-DA!!!--Good Friday.

I planned on spending that night going to a Passion Play and concentrating on Jesus's Crucifixion, not getting wasted. But I want my girls at my party.

What do I do?

Ditto Calypso... I don't think Good Friday is good for a bachelorette party!  It's a day of penance and fasting.

    Ditto Calypso.

I'd push back on your friends and just tell them that that day just won't work.  See if they can adjust their schedules to come in on a different day.

I wouldn't do it either. It's a day for fasting, prayer, reflection and devotion. I would not want my mind distracted during such an important week. Hopefully, you can come up with another date that might work better. I know how difficult it is to find a night that works for everyone.

I think I may know this answer but would Saturday be any better?

Not as bad, but not good either... Saturday night is technically Easter Vigil!  My family attends Easter Vigil Mass which usually starts around 9 or 10pm and lasts up to 3 hours.  Not as penitential of a day as Good Friday, but not quite the Easter Season yet.  If possible, I'd wait until early May when you're out of Lent!  It falls unusually late this year compared to normal.  If scheduling during Lent, I'd recommend avoiding Fridays in general for parties.

I completely understand the challenge of coordinating a date that works for everyone... inevitably someone is not going to be able to make it!  It took by bridesmaids about a million e-mails amongst themselves to finally settle on a day... and even then, not everyone was able to come.

I think we can work it out for the first weekend in May. I felt really bad because it's one of my BM's bday weekend but she doesn't seem to mind.

This is only my second Lent. Last year, not only did I receive my 1st Communion on Easter Vigil, but my son was Christened. It's one of my proudest moments and  I thought I did a really good job fasting and abstaining last year so I want to make sure I keep it up.

You couldn't eat anything anyway because it is a required fasting day (the maxmum is 2 small meals and 1 regular side meal). Liquids are fine but alcohol for parties doesn't really fit into the spirit of the fast.

Oh good!  I'm glad they were able to work something out :)  The late Lent this year makes for some challenges for shower and b-party scheduling for us ladies with spring weddings, I'm right there with ya!  But then our weddings are during the 50-day Easter Season... all the more reason to celebrate!
