I Love the Church

We live in Mexico - that's where my husband's from - and today was Mother's Day here.

DH's grandma is quite elderly now (98, I think!) and recently bedridden so she can't go to mass.  Until the last few months, she went to church nearly everyday...

We went to visit her today and witnessed the most touching scene.  The church "comes to her" now.  Each evening, a lady from the church comes and reads a summary of the day's homily and gives her the bread of Christ.

She was so visibly comforted by this that I teared up...  We basically had "mini-mass" in her bedroom, complete with the Lord's Prayer, etc.  I felt so fortunate to be a part of it.

Just wanted to share...

Yes, it is really a awesome experience. Every few Sunday's at church our priest calls those up who take communion to the sick and homebound. What wonderful people they are. I hope I have someone like that if I ever get like that.

    AMEN!  :-)

This is an awesome post, Expat.  Thank you for writing it.  The world is constantly criticizing the Church and the Truth of our teachings - it's always a blessing to hear the Lord being praised instead!!  (May we always remember Luke 9:26 - For he that shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him the Son of man shall be ashamed, when he shall come in his majesty, and that of his Father, and of the holy angels.)

I totally agree, and thanks Expat for sharing that story. I've been discerning to join the youth ministry in the parish in which I'm getting married, and just last Sunday I heard an extremely touching witness during LifeTeen from a man who brings the Church with him everywhere he goes.

As an ER doctor, he spoke of the horrible things he has to encounter day to day, and how the rosary, prayer, and the Virgin have helped guide him through it, and guide others as well! I became teary-eyed listening to his story of reaching out to a woman dying of cancer through the rosary. I felt so incredibly blessed to hear him speak of the strength of prayer, the Virgin's intercession, and the Church's support. And extremely glad the youth present could hear his story also.

Getting married in the Catholic church is so incredibly important to me, and stories like these reaffirm my faith in Christ's work in the Church.
