Can anyone tell me anything about this place? Scenery, price? I am wondering if we are allowed to bring in a tent, and also what about alocohol? DO they book fast? Thank you!!!!
Most state parks follow the same rules, no alcohol, no damaging of the enviroment which would mean no tent. Your going to have to call to find out the specifics. Here is the PA State park rules and regulations page http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/rulesandregulations/index.htm
An outdoor wedding at Kings Gap is $450 for up to 150 guests and an outdoor reception is $550. They do let you bring in a tent and are very helpful and accomodating. Your contact there is the center manager, Scott Hackenburg, at 717-486-5031 or shackenbur@state.pa.us.
Just be aware that they don't do catering. You have to arrange for all rentals and catering on your own. (Although I think they will provide chairs.)
The scenery can't be beat. I've seen some beautiful photos of brides and grooms with the sun setting behind them over the valley as they stand on the porch behind the mansion. I'm having a noon-time wedding there in June, so no sunset for me!
Forgot to add that alcohol is allowed if you sign a $100 "alcohol beverage agreement." And if you want to book for something soon, contact them ASAP. It's a very popular place and fills up summer and fall pretty quickly.
I'm getting married there this May. In addition to an outdoor wedding, if you are having fewer than 100 guests you can have your event indoors. This is more expensive. Tables and chairs are included in this cost. You can also have a tent outside. I believe that tables and chairs are also included for outdoor weddings and receptions as well..
You can rent out the rooms in the mansion for your guests, bridal party etc. it costs $850 a night to rent all 15 rooms, and you can also rent them individually with a minimum number of rooms. Most bathrooms include claw foot tubs and the rooms have great views of the surrounding landscapes. Be aware that there are only twin beds in the bedrooms (except one with a double bed and one single bed). There are also no tvs in the bedrooms. There is a TV located downstairs.
Kings Gap can cater for up to 30ish people for events like the rehersal dinner and morning after brunch.
Lastly be aware that NO KEGs are allowed. Any beer needs to be served from bottles or cans. You must hire a bartender. Also, you must stop serving alcohol 30 minutes to 1 hour prior to the end of your reception (II've gotten mixed messages on this) which must end by 10pm.
The Friends of Kings Gap (http://www.friendsofkingsgap.org/home) have a website that has a copy of the Kings Gap wedding literature. This may be an old copy but can give you an idea of how things work up there. Hope this helps.
