Feeding the Photographers

Are you guys feeding your vendors?

I guess we should feed the two photographers - since they'll be working 7 hours that day - from mid-morning to late afternoon.

Or should I ask if they require a meal? What's etiquette here? I don't mind paying to include them in the buffet - but I also don't want to pay to include them and then have them not eat? That's like 40+ bucks right there! But I don't want to seem like a cheapo and be like "If I buy you food, will you eat it?" haha..ahh!

Nothing was mentioned at the meeting or in the contract.

The DJ - hasn't even been booked yet - but they'll only be working like a 5 hour day - so - feed DJ or no?

Re: Feeding the Photographers

  • Ahhhh, so many details!  I don't know honestly!
  • As per our venue's rule, all the vendors are getting dinner (7 people in y case), they dont charge us full for them I think its 60%.
  • My DJ and photographer both have it in their contracts that they must be fed. My venue also offers discounted meals for vendors. I feel very strongly that they should be fed though. They are working more than 5 hours and they have a lot of wedding experience so I think that they have a pretty good idea of whether or not they want a break during the event. Also, generally, feeding them will keep them happy and the happier they are, the better they will perform.
  • If I were you, I'd just ask your photographers if they would like to be fed. I would honestly like to feed them especially if they've been working all day. I think most venues will feed them at a lower price or a different meal at a different cost.

I am not quite sure what the deal is with our photographer- I probably should double check and see if he needs to be fed!

  • Yes feed them! But talk to your venue. Most offer a vendor meal at a much lower price. Also, one photog we talked to said he had done many weddings at our venue and didn't want a full meal, just something saved from cocktail hour that he apparently loves. So yeah, talk to the vendor and the venue, but definitly feed them something!

  • I am planning on paying for meals for my two photographers, videographer, and DJ.  My caterer has a special price for vendor meals so I would definitely look into that.  Also reread your contracts and see if it stipulates in there.  I also feel strongly that if they are working for the wedding they should be fed.  My DJ says he gets there at least 2 hours before to start setting up and at least an hour to break down so thats an 8 hour day really.

I'm not sure of the etiquette but I'm feeding my vendors. In most of the contracts with my vendors, it requires me to provide a meal or allow them to take a break.

  • I'm feeding my vendors, as well. 2 photographers, 1 videographer, 1 photo booth attendant, and the DJ & MC. Thankfully, my venue offers vendor meals at 50%, but I would have fed them anyway at full price since they'll be working through dinner time and into the evening. My photographers and videographer will be working all day. We like to feed people in my family!

  • We're feeding ours only because they will be with us for the whole day.  The 2nd shooter turns into the photobooth attendant for the night.  So, I thought it were only fair to give them meals =)
  • We have to feed our photographer.  He is FI's brother.

  • Both my DJ and Photographer also have that they should be fed in the contract.  My venue offers a sandwich option for the vendors or a discounted rate for the meal.  I would talk with your venue to see if they offer discounted vendor meals.
  • Yes we will be feeding ours.

  • In my photographer and videographer's contracts it states that they are to be fed.  I will also probably feed my DJ and photo booth attendent.  They will be working long hours.  I figure, I'd probably want food if I were them!

  • yes - vendors are humans too!! not only is it required in most contracts that they must be fed, but it is also proper etiquette, too.

they do not have to be fed the same meal as your guests. however, it is polite to give them a break and a meal.  photographers (including their second or third shooter if you are having them!), videographers, and DJ all must eat.
  • You should feed them.  That is a long day to go without food.  I was pretty much told to feed them if you did not want them leaving to go elsewhere to get food.
