How to get people to RSVP

So my shower is on the 19th, and my sister and mom (who are hosting) have asked me how to get people to RSVP. They sent out about 40 invitations and have so far only heard from about 5 peeople (either yay or nay) at first they thought it was because they left off the area code for the phone number (they live across the state line from me, we are right on the border, so a lot of people live in Maine instead of NH) so they sent out a second post card with an "oops" but still haven't heard from most people (including my FMIL). The deadline for RSVP's isnt until Friday, so maybe people will still RSVP. They have booked the food already and aren't too concerned for the shower, but are getting ready to send out invites to the Jack and Jill party, which is being hosted at a venue and they have to have a count. Any ideas of how to get people to RSVP? I am just so confused on why people wouldn't do it. They gave both an e-mail address and phone number!!

Re: How to get people to RSVP

  • If you're RSVP date is friday then you have to wait.  If people still haven't RSVPed, you'll have to call them and ask.

  • We are now past the RSVP date for my shower and most of my friends haven't RSVP's. I'm sending them messages on facebook or text messgages depending on how we usually communicate. FI's family has also not responded so FMIL is calling them. Its annoying but we have to do it. I'm hoping that since we have to call them for the shower they figure it out for the wedding.

  • my mom had a hard time people RSVP'ing...it is all good though.  They need to be the ones to call...and your FI needs to handle his mother & have her contact people to see if they're coming or not. You shouldn't have to worry about anything.
  • My shower is also May 19th. My MOH used Evites for most of the guests and we sent invitations through the mail to the older family members. Several guests didn't receive the invitations so it is okay to make sure they received it, but I wouldn't start reaching out until after the deadline for a yes or no.

Some of my guests have jobs that they have to find someone to cover their shift. So I'm expecting many last minute responses.

  • If you're asking for advice about what to do differently on your jack and jill invites I might suggest providing an email RSVP option.  I know people with unusual or busy schedules (night shift nurses etc.) appreciate having a way to RSVP at any time of day as opposed to thinking "damn, it's too late to call."

Overall though, people can be lazy :)  Good luck

  • My shower is on the 19th too. A day of showers, apparently!! I didn't even know anything about RSVP issues for my shower last week. I'm assuming I won't know anything for this one either. FMIL and other people are taking care of it.

But the shower hosted by my BMs and aunt may be a different story. It's not until June 23 though so I wonder how that will go.

Thank you that is what I was looking for. They did include an e-mail address and phone number, maybe facebook? I don't know another way to get people to RSVP. They have to pay the number for the Jack and Jill no matter if people show up or not, so I don't want them having to pay for a lot of exras that don't show up or having people show up that they havne't paid for.
