Witness

Hi Ladies,

I have been asked to bring the name and address of the witnesses that we are going to use to sign the licence. I have a meeting this week with my priest but I'm not sure who usually serves as the witness.

Is it the MOH and Best Man? Someonelse in the family?

Thanks

Traditionally, it's the MOH and BM, but it doesn't need to be.

Some priests/parishes prefer that the witnesses be Catholics.

My priest made no stipulations, and we did not have to provide any information on our signers.  We made the choice to have BIL/SIL sign as we are close to them, and SIL is a good, practicing Catholic, unlike my MOHs.

Usually it's the MOH/Best man.  It can be anyone, though.  Someone who will be there and see your wedding happen.

I emailed the secretary at the church to ask if the witnesses need to meet a certain requirement. My MOH is converting to catholic and the BM is not catholic so I just wanted to make sure I have it right.

We didn't even have to have anyone sign the marriage license. Our priest told us usually the BM and MOH are the witnesses, but in our case, neither of them was Catholic, and it was okay by our Priest.

Yeah, neither of our friends who signed the license are Catholic.  Although, our priest only asked for their names, not their addresses.
