Favors?

What kind of favors did everyone have at their reception?

Our reception is very simple, very casual - just appetizers, cake, and coffee/tea/wine, etc. We aren't even having any kind of assigned seating. Our theme is an autumn one, with our colors hunter green and harvest gold; I told the wedding coordinator that I wanted the lodge to look like the woods had come inside, and "oh look, there's a wedding reception!"

I've been looking for a while at seeds, and perhaps some love sonnets printed out and put in little scrolls, and perhaps some chocolate stars, since the first time we said we loved each other was during the Perseid meteor shower. I want the favors to be unique, but something we can do ourselves relatively inexpensively.

What did you do?

Happy Sunday! It's gorgeous here!

I had little Chinese take out boxes and filled them with these wonderful fleur de sel caramels that I found on etsy (finding the best caramels was a fun WR task).  Oh, and we had little matchbooks with H's and my names on them (H's request).  I just love fleur de sel caramels, and caramels are so tasty in the fall and match fall colors.

Edibles are really good. We gave out decks of cards (2 decks for $1 at the dollar store!)

    We also did these: http://www.customizedcatholicprayercards.net/index.php
We put the Holy Family on half of them and St. Gianna (our relationship patron saint) on half of them, and on the backs, our names, wedding date and location, and a prayer for marriage. I thought they were great :)

Also, I'm not sure what the price was like.... but a cousin of mine bought little flower pots and painted them her wedding color, and planted a bit of ivy in each one. A cool idea, and it (or some other plant) would fit in nicely with your theme.

Oriental Trading has some pretty neat favor ideas for reasonable prices.  One product that caught my eye was personalized stickers sized to go over the wrappers on Hershey miniatures.

Fi and I are getting personalized dice from Chessex.  We're both really into tabletop RPGs, and we figured that pretty much everyone has a copy of Monopoly that's missing a die, so it's something that won't just sit around collecting dust.

I like useful/edible favors best.  Seed packets, candies... a few weddings I've been to in Texas had beer koozies with cutesy messages ("To have and to hold and keep your beer cold") that were nice, but I don't think we use them ever.  We don't really want to spend the money on favors, but we might be going with test tubes filled with jelly beans if we have the money to spend on it.

I've also seen where some couples will make a donation to a charity in the name of their guests.

Sounds like you guys would get along swimmingly with my H and some of our friends :).

We had a candy bar with all red candy (since red was our main color).  We had to have assigned tables because we had meal choices, so our candy containers doubled as escort cards.  We bought mini red boxes from here (<a href="http://www.bayleysboxes.com/tuck%20top%20box.html">http://www.bayleysboxes.com/tuck%20top%20box.html</a>).  Then we wrapped them in the appropriate color "box belt" (<a href="http://www.bayleysboxes.com/bloom%20box.html">http://www.bayleysboxes.com/bloom%20box.html</a>) for each meal choice and placed a square of black cardstock with name and table number on the front.

Voila (and yes I folded and labeled all 150 boxes myself for the most part.  It suuuuuuuuucked).

We did two different favors- homemade fudge in little boxes (like Docta's but white with navy ribbon; 300+ boxes, and my aunt made all the fudge) & the second was a labor of love as well.   We both love live music... and met at a concert. So... DH downloaded a ton of different shows online, burned them to CDs, and our guests could "shop" for different CDs!  He made about 350 of them, for about 300 people. Some people took way more than just one!

We are not doing favors, unless we have our reception in a clubhouse in the woods, and pass out flashlights so people can find their cars in the dark.

We are doing personalized fortune cookies (http://fancyfortunecookies.com/) and also making a donation in the name of the guests to the American Heart Association. We're still trying to figure out a cute DIY box to put the cookie/donation slip in.
