Stone Mill Inn House Caterer?

Has anyone had any experience with the Stone Mill Inn's house caterer? I beleive they are Unique Presenations Catering. We just booked our ceremony and reception at the Stone Mill and they recommend the house cater. Just wondering how good they are and how well they are to work with. It's either them or another caterer Ala Carte since Stone Mill requires you to use one their caterers on the list.

When we toured Stone Mill, they gave us three choices of caterers or their house caterer.  We were either going to use the house caterer, or the "middle priced" caterer, which is Artistic Foods in York.

We met with someone from Unique Presentations (the SMI house caterer) and weren't impressed. It was very expensive and not very flexible in terms of price and options for what's served. We found out that the owner of Unique Presentations is related to the SMI's owner (I think the caterer's owner is the SMI's owner's son). We decided to go with Artistic Foods, instead (they used to be the house caterer of the SMI until Unique Presentations opened in 2007) and couldn't have been happier. The food was amazing and very affordable. Let me know if you want more info!

thanks everyone. I'll have to check into the Artistic Foods. I think i remember her saying that there were 3 caterers we could use but the sheet she gave only listed Unique Presentations and Ala Carte.

We were told that the house caterer was the best and would range $20-$24 a person and would be willing to personalize a menu for us since we are wanting a BBQ theme. Now i'm wondering if this is true. Hmmmm

It can't hurt to meet with more than one caterer and see what they offer. Get the offers in writing, though, so nothing changes between your initial meeting and your final contract. GL!

I am geting married at the Stone Mill next October.  I met with the in house caterer and thought that he was very nice and willing to do whatever we asked.  I am kinda questioning the price though.  Does anyone have the number for the middle of the road one, Artistic Foods?  I would be interested to compare the 2.

Polley let me know how you make out. I contacted Stone Mill and they told me they no longer work with artistic foods that my 3 choices are Ala Carte, The house caterer and Accomac which is super expensive and not that good. If they tell you you can use artistic foods let me know. I have yet to meet or hear from the house caterer so I'm still not sure who I want to use.

Have you tried to contact the house caterer?  We sat down with him and decided on a menu.  I just was not sure how much the food should cost.  Granted we own a restaurant so my mom is super picky about food.  She figures she would like to have some of the nicer and more expensive things.  I probably still have the sample menus that they sent me and my proposal if you want something to go by.  I think they told me that Ala Carte is run by BosCovs and it is all prepackaged like food.  Thats the reason we strayed from them.  

Also if you have tried to contact the in our caterer and have not received an answer.. it took me awhile to hear back from him too.  I called Stone Mill and made an appointment with him.  He will sit down with you and go over what he does.  You can select things off the menu or you can ask him to do other things.  We are having Chicken Picatta and that was not on there.  

I am definetly going to look into the other caterer situation just so I can get a feel for the pricing though.  Let me know if you want me to send you any of the stuff that I have.

Thanks! That would be great. We have yet to hear from them. I did hear back once from Ala Carte but they are hard to get a response back. They haven't inpressed me much thus far going on first impressions. The people told me I should be hearing from the house caterer in a few days once they let them know exactly what we are thinking of for our dinner so they can prepare a few sample menus and then once i hear from them to schedule a meeting with them. So we'll see. Everyone keeps telling me that we have time and even though it might appear that way there's a lot to plan and get reserved because things book up so fast! We are getting married at the Stone Mill on September 17 next year. So excited but to be honest I'll be so happy once i can get a photographer, caterer and dj reserved and out of the way so I can concentrate on finding my dress.

Btw - love the name polleypocket. its so cute
