Name change question..

Currently, my middle name is used on everything with my frist name - as either Lisamarie or Lisa Marie..  So what I want to do is update my first name compltely as Lisamarie then maiden name would be middle and his hame would be last.

Lisamarie Maiden Newname

According to penndot, to have this completed I was told I would need to do a legal name change through the court systems and be approved by a judge. Very complicated and drawn out process with all kinds of fees.  Does anyone haae experiience completeing all this?  There has to be a simpler way.  Since Im not changing my name just putting my last as my middle..

THanks!  I hope I get some responses!

ps.  sorry if anything sounded weird.  i took my ambiem before i started writing thinking it woulnt kick in last fast.  good night for me!

I don't know the specific rules for PA. When my brother's wife went to the courthouse to change her last name they asked her if she wanted to change her first or middle name. I think if you get married that may be your one big chance to change any of your names. Are you married yet? Changing you name because of marriage is an easier process.

On the other hand, a co-worker of mine was recently undergoing a loooong process of changing his last name which was his adoptive father's aka his stepdad's to his biological father's last name since his mother and stepdad divorced. He has had to file it publicly for X amount of weeks/months and it cost him several hundred dollars.

Not exactly a good answer but may be some insight.

I didn't want to give up my maiden name, so I took it as a second middle name and my husband's last name as my new last name. So my name is now First Middle Maiden Hislastname, and I technically have two middle names. This was no problem with social security or my DL (though that was in WI). I think if you actually want to change your first name, though, you can't do that simply with a marriage license, you'd have to go to court. hth!

Thanks for the responses.  From what im being told from the DMV is only my last name can be changed.  I can't add my maiden as my middle, even though I dont have a middle currently, unless I go through the whole deal with the courts.. which will cost about $400 and 6 months of my time.  yikes!!  However, I can change it with Social Security... weird.  They said the state is the one that really keeps track of your name, which is why it can be changed everywhere, but with them.  Worst rules ever.

I think the smartest thing to do would be just to drop your maiden name or hyphenate your last name (maiden-hislastname) because to change your first name (which IS what you would be doing by moving marie over next to Lisa) you would have to go to court and get it approved, which is costly and time consuming. Also don't try to change it everywhere but with the state because it causes all sorts of issues with other policies you have, such as your health insurance and medical records. I use to work at a hospital and health care providers and esp. insurance companies have to go by your legal name, so if you forget and sign your new first name without it being legally changed, they can legally reject your claims and things can get messy. Just some thoughts...

I wanted to keep my maiden name so what i did was just add it as a 2nd middle name and they let me do that at penn dot. I just added it on.
