Dresses for voluptuous gals like myself

I'm having a heck of a time finding affordable and fashionable dresses for full-figured gals... I've seen the selection at Alfred Angelo and David's Bridal and I'm getting the impression that most designers think gals like us only want poofy cupcake dresses haha.

I'm not asking for much, just a little bit of comfort in what I'm wearing, something flattering, and that is leaning more towards the simple side of decor on the dress. I'm open to all styles (except ballgowns).

Anyone know of wedding gown designers that make larger dresses? With that, I'm also looking for these designers that have retailers in Central PA (although I am willing to travel to Philly, Baltimore if need be).

All help is greatly appreciated! :-)

I would highly recommend checking out J & B Bridals in Chambersburg, PA. I know it might be quite a drive for you (I drove 2 hours and I know others on this board have driven 3!), but it's completely worth it! I would call them and talk to someone about you budget to see if it's realistic for their dresses.

My budget was $1500 for the dress, shoes, alterations etc. I paid $855 for my dress and I got a great deal because I bought it at one of their trunk shows. They can also order any dress from any designer (except Davids Bridal gowns).  I'm a bigger size as well and I was tired of finding all the same silhouette in my size and nothing else. J & B was a life saver for me! I worked with Jackie, she's awesome! Tell her Amber sent you!

I second J & B... It was a hike for me too, but it was ABSOLUTELY worth it! Amy was my lady who helped me, and she was fantastic!!  Give them a call!!

In just Lancaster and York Counties there are almost 15 different shops. I would recommend calling In White in Lancaster. I'm not sure what all they carry for your body type but they are very very very helpful. :)

Im a full figured bride too. I found my dress at MB Bridal in Greensburg Pa. They have excellent service and a fantastic selection! Plus, they can get any dress you want ordered in your size if they dont have it...assuming the designer made it that way. Thats what I did for my dress. :-)  Good Luck!

Bridal Emporium in Elizabethtown is fantastic.  They sort of cater to pleasantly plump gals.  The were very nice to work with!
