Starting Register, opinions please

So FI and I are going to start our wedding registry this weekend since our families are after us for christmas list to start off the wedding buying since neither of us really have anything for a house. So we figured by starting our registry now at least our family would have an idea of what we want and then we can add things closer to the wedding once we have found our house.

Anyway I wanted an opinion from local brides. What stores have you used? Did you have any problems with a particular store?

We are thinking about BB&B and Target but I also heard Macy's and Kohls could be good.

Would love to hear any opinions or experiences with local stores.

Thanks!

BB&B is awesome. Large selection, guests can use 20% off coupons, and you can return anything off of your registry for cash without a receipt. The process was very easy, and buying a gift is easy, too. I've heard bad things about Target, like the registry not being updated frequently enough causing duplicate gifts, and apparently it's impossible to return things. Don't know about anywhere else. hth!

Thanks for the information. See I was reading over on the other board for registeries and they were saying they had bad experiences with BB&B. That's why I wanted to know how they werel locally. So glad to hear. I think that is where FI and I will start this weekend.

We registered with Macy's and it was a great experience.  They have a really nice completion program (sales and such) and also 10% of all of the money spent on your registry they give back to you on a gift card.

We registered at both BB&B and the Bon-Ton, I would reccommend the Bon-ton over BB&B and day of the week.  They are always having some sort of sale, offer free gift wrapping, and have a pretty decent completion program with 10% back.  Both my registeries actually got completed, but guest remarked at how great it was to shop at the Bon-Ton home dept.

My FI and I just started our registries on Saturday.  We started at Target and it was a disaster. We had to exchange our registry gun 3 times because it quit working.  When we got home, it didn't save things to the registry that it said were saved. So annoying and a HUGE waste of time! However, as a wedding guest, I have bought off Target registries numerous times and everything is easy to find.

We also checked out Kohl's, but the prices on their kitchen items were a little pricey. I think we registered for 4 things there and probably won't keep that registry.

We plan to register at BBB too. I started it yesterday online and it was very easy! I also heard that they give you a discount for anything that's not purchased off your registry, so you can go back and buy it after the wedding.  I'm not sure if this is true or not, but I'm checking into it.

    Thanks Ladies!

FI and I started ours on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday we went to 3 different Targets and all 3 were having problems with the computers they use for their registeries so we went to BB&B. We had a somewhat good experience with them. We liked the completion program they have, that they are always sending out discount coupons and they also keep your registry on file for 2 years from your wedding date. Also they give you cute little cards to include with your invitations showing that you are registered there. The only thing we weren't thrilled with is they have a sales lady walk you through the store as you registry. She was always pointing us to the most expensive things. Other than that ti was great.

Sunday we started one at Target. Much more fun since no one was escorting us through the store. FI loved the scanner gun. I'd turn around for a minute and would here "beep, beep, beep". lol

Was thinking about going to kohls just for the fact they have some offers that if you just register for certain product amounts you recieve free gifts. Some you have to register and complete but others just register. Might just do it for the free gifts and just not mention to anyone that we are registered there. Has anyone else thought about doing this just to get the free stuff?

We don't want to look too greedy with so many registeries especially since ours will be huge because of getting our first house. We both now live with our folks so we have absolutely nothing for our place. lucky us lol

I have the same question: How many registries are too many? We don't want to look greedy either.  We've been living together for about 6 years, so all of our stuff needs upgraded or replaced as it was just hand-me-down stuff.

Yes, three registries is too many. Try making the existing two a little larger!

We had a great experience at BBB and a bad one at Macy's. BBB's inventory stays pretty much the same while Macy's changes with the season. If you're going to do your registry more than a few months before the wedding, many of your items from Macy's will be discontinued or out of stock. This is what we ran into. At the end we just put everything on our BBB registry.
