Publick House or Harding Allen Estate?

I'm currently looking at the Publick House and the Harding Allen Estate for my Fall 2013 wedding and was looking for opinions about how the food and atmosphere at each place is?  If you had your wedding at the Harding Allen Estate (or went to a wedding there) how did you like the DJ?  Thanks for your help!

I had my reception at the Publick House in November.  It was great! Several guests stayed over -- that's a huge plus with the Publick House! The food was great and portions were generous -- we had prime rib and turkey.  The hors d'oeuvres, from what I heard, were fantastic.  We opted to have a November wedding because it's cheaper than Sept. or Oct.  That's something to think about!

The catering department was very easy to deal with.  Laura, especially, was very timely with email responses.  I never had to hunt anyone down to get an answer to questions.

We pretty much lived there the entire weekend.  We had the RD there the night before and then my parents held a post-wedding breakfast on Sunday morning.  Everything was delicious.  My advice is if you're having children at the RD or wedding that you specifically ask that they be served first! For some weird reason, they served the children last at the RD for both dinner and dessert.  It's kind of a no-brainer that you serve children first because they get antsy!

PM me if you have any questions.

My sister had her wedding at the Harding Allen.  The grounds and estate are beautiful, but as far as I'm concerned that was the only stand-out feature. The food was horrible and served to us barely luke warm.  I ordered eggplant parm, and the cheese was solid, that's how cold the food was. Even during the rehearsal, everything was very disorganized. You'd think after the large amount of weddings this place does, they would have it together by now.  As a wedding vendor myself, I have heard a few complaints about Harding Allen in the past, but always wrote them off as a fluke thing.  Unfortunately, after witnessing it first hand, I can no longer give out good recommendations for the place.

The Publick House, on the other hand, is one of my fave restaurants (I live in Sturbridge and visit there frequently).  I work a lot of PH weddings and every bride always has rave reviews for it.

I am having my wedding at the Publick House next August and I couldn't be happier with the responses I've received from Laura and Lisa, no matter how silly my questions were.

  • I've been to a wedding at Harding Allen and though the dancing was a little on the mellow side. Does the DJ come with the package? I would go Publick House - Stunning venue!
