Dress Alterations???

So i am wanting to hold off as long as possible to get my final fitting, and then have my dress altered.  How soon do you typically need to get your dress altered.  I dont want to hold off too long and then not be able to get it done.  Andy advise. Thanks

You should plan to have your final gown fitting 1 month before your wedding date.  Good luck!

I think it all depends on how much you need done and who you are going to.  If you need a lot done obviously your alterations person will need more time to do it.  If you having a friend do your alterations or someone that doesn't get to much business I think you could wait until a lot closer to your date.  If you using someone like Margaret or Pualine (I think those are the 2 most popular) I would think they have so many brides coming and going it be better safe than sorry to get in done more in advance. My best suggestion would be to call and schedule an appointment now but make the appointment for about 1 1/2 months from your wedding day! Pauline (who I used) and Margaret book up really quickly, and far in advance.

Pauline told me that I needed to have my first fitting 6-8 weeks before the wedding.  Definitely call early and get on their books however.  Good alterations people do fill up fast!

I am working with Margaret and had my first fitting in late June for my October wedding. I am not having alot done, either (hemmed, and just taken in). My thought would be "final fitting" as close as possible to the wedding as possible, first fitting - at least 8 weeks before.

I am having my first fitting at in August for my Oct 31 wedding. I am just getting it hemmed and bustled to begin with since I hope to tone up somemore for the wedding and will have a second fitting in sept or early oct. I am not using a popular vendor though...just my FMIL's friend who is an amazing dress designer (or so she says!)
