Wedding Insurance?

Are you getting this?? TheKnot.com suggests it, but what is it really, and what does it cover?

Thank you!

Wedding insurance covers the incidentals that you may have throughout the planning process, and then also the day. It has become more popular just because the overall price that people are spending on weddings have increased. I personally looked into it, but I dont think our budget is high enough for me to want to spend money on having it. Also, I just couldnt find that much information on it as I wanted to that made me comfortable.

My wedding planner swears by it and she updated her FB saying how it saved one of her clients recently (their photographer bailed or something). If you have a large budget, I think it's a smart idea. Travelers has it, and that's a super reputable insurance company!

Wow, thanks girls. Hadn't expected so many positive responses... I guess I wonder if the contracts we sign don't cover those things too? IF there's a fire on the day of, I certainly expect my venue to reimburse me...

I don't know what a large "enough" budget is for this, but I'll look into it further.

    Thank you again.

Travelers has a bunch of different levels, so it can cover small budgets or large budgets.

This is what Travelers' site said, and even though their little quiz determined we needed it (tricky, tricky), we decided against it because we are careful, we went through our contracts tooth and nail, we scanned in our contracts and our checks. If there's a fire and your gifts go up in flames, yeah, you're screwed. But in the more likely even that your florist screws up, insurance doesn't protect that you got the wrong flowers. You'll still have the wrong flowers -- you only have the option to furnish your contract and fight to get your money back. I didn't see anything about Travelers acting on your behalf in this:

"We know that your special day is all you have been dreaming about — and all that you can't stop worrying about. Put your mind at ease as Travelers helps you protect against the unanticipated: What if your venue suddenly goes out of business? What if the bridal salon loses your dress? What if your caterer backs out?Don't worry, for as little as $160, Travelers can help safeguard your wedding with theWedding Protector Plan®.Click here to purchase now, or take our quiz to find out why wedding insurance makes sense for you.Travelers Wedding Protector Plan® can cover:Cancellation or postponementAdditional expensesWedding photographs/videoWedding giftsSpecial jewelryLost depositsLiability insurance (optional coverage)Liquor liability insurance (optional coverage)"

I also located this from Travelers:
The basic policy www.protectmywedding.com/products-services/cancellationpostponement/">(Core Coverage) can reimburse you in case you lose your non-recoverable deposits and purchases if covered circumstances beyond your control cause you to cancel or postpone your wedding. You can also be protected against no-show or bankrupt vendors, damage to wedding attire, damaged gifts and much more.

I don't understand this insurance at all, you sign contracts with each vendor, don't you? What will this insurance exactly cover? So ok, your caterer backed out, obviously you had a contract, so if they backed out for no reason, they breached the contract and owe you something, same with every other vendor.
What will wedding insurance do? Ask them for money? Replace photos, food, flowers?
I think it's just a way to make money on emotional brides, oh well.

If you get it, hope you wont have to use it.
    :)

Not every vendor is reputuable, I think it would help you recover lost deposits if they suddently went out of business and wouldn't refund your money. At least -- that's the impression that I got.

I agree with CJTeacup and KrystalKitch -- luckily all my vendors came from very reputable sources: you girls! I signed my contracts and I'm sticking to 'em. No insurance for this girl!

    Thank you all.

I think this is the worst case scenario insurance. Things beyond your control and the vendors control may happen and this ensure you'll get back your money without having to stress at the time of the wedding.

How do you know if your vendor is reputable?

I'm assuming reputable means it is an established business that has been around for a while, has insurance, can provide proof of work done and referrals. I would never work with a vendor that i know nothing about, that has no insurance, no contract and no business registration. I can see this problem might be with new photographers, dj's, planners, and any vendor for that matter, and I've read enough horror stories how these "professionals" just take your money and run away or fail to provide what they've promised. So maybe if you're hiring someone without any credentials, you might want to take on insurance, but i wouldn't want to work with someone like that in the first place.

Exactly, CJTeacup! But if you're at all concerned, this insurance might be for you.
