Hair/Makeup Trials... ok not to do??

I live in Baltimore (parents in FL) so I am kind of a destination bride. I booked Cari from Kyle Lynns for my hair/makeup.

I will be in FL over Memorial Weekend and can set up a trial then..is that too early?? (Wedding in Oct). Also, I feel bad spending $100 on the trial and then have to undo all of it. The only day she can do it is Monday, the day I am flying back home. So, I don't want my fiance to see it so I will to take it all out/wash off before boarding my flight...

I've heard lots of great things about her, so I am kinda thinking to just cancel the trial and hope for the best?

Well, I had a trial with Cari from Kyle Lynn and once she was finished, I loved everything about the look she put together and didn't ask her to change anything!

So, I think as long as you show her some inspiration pictures you could probably get away without doing a trial. She's really great at what she does!

Personally for me id do a trial, how do you know you are going to like it if you dont do a trial. I'd do a trial before I hired anyone also if they can do thier own make up they can do yours. I'd never buy a product without seeing what i'll be getting.Im doing my own make up because thats what I do for a living but I will need someone to do my hair and for that i'll for sure have them do a trial bfore a hire them and I see alot of girls runnng into the mall to have someone redo thier make. ..I cant stress how many time I see this happen unless you've seen thier work and you trust them. Some artist dont even charge for a trial run. but that just my oppinion..Good luck im sure you will make a beautiful bride either way.

I'd do a trial, but I would NOT wash it off before you see your fiance. I assure you even if he sees your hair and makeup before (like my FI did) he will still be completely shocked when he sees you the day of the wedding with your dress and flowers, etc.

After my trial, FI took me out for dinner and we played like we were celebrating some special event..it was funny to see the looks we got.

Cari wouldn't leave until I was 100% in love with my trial. She ended up changing my hair and makeup just a tad without the slightest bit of anger or annoyance

I used Cari as well, and she won't leave until you are satisfied so I don't think a trial is really necessary with her. Also, since your trial would be kinda far in advance of your wedding, you may end up changing your mind after your trial anyway unless you know exactly what you want.

I would have some photos of the type of hair and make up you want and just talk with her about the type of look you are going for.

I am in the same boat (living in Rhode Island).  My stylist here offered to do a trial that we could photograph so I had picutres to take down with me.  It is tough trying to schedule a trial from a distance and if I can't ,at least I have some great ideas to bring with me, that I know I like on me.

I'm not going to do a trial.  I'm in the same boat.  I live in DC and won't be down to the wedding until 4 days before and at that point, I really don't think it matters.  I'm going to be half up half done with curls.  I'm going to chance it.

I'm going to have to disagree w/ most of you.  I live in MA & my wedding was in FL.  Darlena from Kyle Lynn did my hair & makeup.  I would suggest that you do your trial a couple days before your wedding, when you get down there.  That's what I did.  After the trial, we took our WP out for dinner.  By the time we left the restaurant, my hair started to fall out.  That was good to know ahead of time so that she could add more pins on the big day.  Also, my husband is brutally honest.  He told me that he wasn't crazy about this twist thing she did on the side during the trial.  So I had her change it a bit for the wedding.

My two cents- Do whatever you want.  It's perfectly okay to not do one- no need to ask permission.  It's just hair and makeup- your FI will love you no matter if the curls falll a bit after 2 hours or two days.  There is enough to stress about no need to add to trial or not to trial- just enjoy your day and know you'll be radiant no matter if you had a hair trial or not- no professional will let you leave the chair without being happy- just allot enough time for do over on the day of- you'll be fine.  Happy Planning!
