Please help us!!

my FI and I haven't decided on a date yet. We keep going back and forth between a few but we're concerned about there being a problem with people coming at certain times. What do you think?

Right now we have either Nov. 24th 2012 or December 29th 2012 as tentative dates. We don't want to interfere with our family's holiday celebrations, but we feel that it would be easier to plan around a holiday weekend because then it's easier for family members who are OoT to travel (meaning not have to take time off from work).

What does everyone else think??

What about a holiday that doesn't occur during Thanksgiving or Christmas breaks when people might have other arrangements? Labor Day? Memorial Day? My wedding date is President's Day weekend and some of my guests who work in banks or education will have a three day weekend.

It's also important to realize that traveling during holidays times will be more expensive for your guests.

Posted by KrystalsKitsch[/QUOTE]I agree with this. I think its a lot to ask having family travel during Thanksgiving and Christmas, especially with the way the economy is.

We are in a very similar predicament, although we are staying away from christmas and thanksgiving. we are looking at memorial day '12 and labor day '11 (but I think we're leaning towards labor day '11). we have so many people from OOT that it makes since to have it closer to a holiday.

We originally thought about doing something in the summer that way kids are out of school and it's easier for people to travel, but Summers in FL are way too hot for what we want to do. Other thoughts we had were to have the wedding in early Nov. but got worried that would conflict with people taking time off for Thanksgiving vacation. What do you think?

I would stay away from Christmas break. Alot of people struggle just to get through the holiday financially and depending on how far your guests are traveling, it may be alot to ask. It is also more expensive to fly and book hotels that time of year...

Maybe look at Veterans Day or Labor Day weekend for a 3 day weekend!

Veterans' Day might work ... didn't think about it honestly. Thanks for the suggestions everyone we'll see. FI is having unexpected brain surgery Friday morning so I'm kind of a wreck right now. All prayers are greatly appreciated.

Tgiving and Christmas are very expensive times to buy plane tickets and get hotels here.  And I don't know what you plan to do that you can't do in the summer, but if you're thinking of doing anything outside of a hotel or on a beach during those holiday times, you'll have 60 outsiders peering over at your wedding.

Best wedding I went to was on the Sunday of MLK weekend in January.  Everyone flew in with low-cost tickets, and got a break on the hotel prices, and the venue cut their prices dramatically bec it was a SUNDAY wedding...  Try that.

Honestly, I thinkyou should do whatever works best for your FI and you.  NO TIME is going be a good time for EVERYONE.  We are getting married the weekend before thanksgiving, it just worked best for us.  I told our guests that if they were coming in from OOT that they could stay for a big thanksgiving that week.. now most won't, bt we gave them the option.

For us, we knew that the summer (in FL that can be from May-September, IMO) was too hot for us to do an outdoor wedding.  That left fall, winter, and a part of spring.  Winter doesn't always work because those are very popular months for people to get married and also popular times for tourists to visit.  Flights can be expensive and hotels are at a premium.  The date just kind of came to us.  If your guests want to be there they will make the effort, and if they can't don't hold it against them.

ALSO, my T&P are with you and your FI.  Please let us know if you need anything else!

Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in - My Fi and me are getting married the day after Thanksgiving this year. It really depends on the size of your wedding that you are looking for. We are planning on between 75 and 100. Most of my family knew long ahead of time and were able to get plane tickets at a regular rate, so the price wasn't an issue. Many people have the time off already, so that was kind of nice to not ask people to take time off. The holidays are a special time for myself and I couldn't imagine a better time for my wedding. Go with your gut, but get invites/STD cards out long in a advance and make sure people are aware of the date. If your thinking 2012 I think you will have plenty of time to prepare. Best of luck!

(Repost from the newbie/lurker post) Since you have so much time ahead of yourself, why not bump up your date to a less family-oriented holiday, like Colombus Day?  I would personally have trouble getting time off to go to a Christmastime wedding because so many people at work already take time off for that.  Columbus Day is usually a long weekend, no snow yet for northern airports (read: flight delays), October weather is great in FL, and that way you can celebrate the holidays as newlyweds!

Best wishes for your fiance. :(
