Ordering BM dresses?

How did you have your MOH/BMs order their dresses? My girls are spread out over the East coast and I want this to be convenient for them as well as accurate.

Option 1: Have them get their measurements at a store near them and order them all from Olga's Bridal (where we found the dress). This concerns me because I'm assuming every store/salesperson may measure differently and I don't want there to be any miscommunication.

Option 2: Have them order the dress at whatever shop carries it in their city. I really don't have any reservations about this although I don't know if any of you have any drawbacks that I didn't consider.

My girls chose this dress: http://www.barijay.com/style.php?coll=barijay&showid=526

How did you order BM dresses?

I had my girls go to a shop where they lived. The only issue with that was finding a shop that had the style dress they wanted to try on.

But otherwise everything worked out fine that way.

My BMs are all ordering their dresses from shops local to them. But one drawback I have heard of is that there can be slight variations in the color since they would end up being from different dye lots (I know this happens with yarn, so it sounds plausible). For me it's not really an issue since they are all in the same dress but different colors, but it may be something you should inquire about. I wouldn't worry too much about the measurements since they'd be getting them altered anyway and they have a fair amount of leeway with that.

I would go with option 2...I was lucky that all my girls are from the area so we just agreed on a day that we could all meet at Demetrios and made it a girls day.

If you do go with option 2...I would research the stores that carry the gown...check their reviews and things like that.  Then I would contact the store myself let them know that you are the bride and speak with one salesperson explain the situation to her so that she is aware that you will not be there but she also is aware of the specifics then have your BM deal with that one salesperson that is your point of contact.

    GL!!!

I have heard the dye lot thing before. I was told it was safer to have them all order the dress from the same shop that way one big order is placed. I'm not too concerned about the measurements since stores just order the dress size that fits the largest measurement. I'm sure either option would be safe.
    BTW great dress :-)

Let me know how this works out for you. I love Olga's but my only problem is that you can find the same dress at another store (maybe a little farther away) for cheaper. My Dress that I fell in love with is 1,050 at Olgas and I found a place in Clearwater as well as Gainesville that have the same dress for 989.95.

The store in Clearwater is havign a trunk show this weekend so I will also recieve 10% off of the price they gave me (989.95)

Hi! I have BMs spread all over the US too.  I had them order the dress from www.netbride.com. The quotes I got back were WAY under what a local bridal salon asked for.  When you call them, you may just have to leave a message and they will call you back the same day. It may seem sketchy at first but I had to keep calling to get different quotes for different dresses and they always called back and were VERY helpful.  I even asked why their prices were so much cheaper. Explanation - they have a low overhead (an office with like 10 people that work there) and they have been working with designers like Dessy and others for several years, so they have really great prices. The only problem with ordering online or by phone is making sure your girls get the right size.  I had mine go to a local bridal salon to either get measured or try on a similar dress so they could figure out what size to order. Sorry this is so long but GL!

Hmm... different dye lots. Never thought of that. My girls are wearing BLACK! That might be a bit noticeable. So I think I'm going to take a BM and see what the prices are like at another store (here in OH where I live).

I second netbride.com as well.  Their customer service is top notch and prices can't be beat.  Plus this insures that they all get the same fabric dye and all.  GL!
