Cups? or Bra?

So I have my 1st fitting scheduled with Pauline Miller for next week, and during the conversation on the phone she mentioned that I should bring a bra, but that we'll "probably go with cups since that works best with that type of dress."  Um... The thought of venturing out of the house w/o a supportive device makes me sweat, and the thought of doing so for my wedding gives me heart palpitations.  Do I trust her judgement and let her make the call?  I've never had the option of not wearing a bra with a formal dress, so I'm looking for some input here.  TIA :)

If you don't mind me asking what cup size are you? I had Pauline and I wear an "I" yeah, sucks to be me. Which means that there are no cups in that size. On the phone she told me to get a long line bra, which I did. Then in person she was like "ummm I can do it without the bra if you want."  I choose to keep the bra, and I'm glad I did. I felt more comfortable, and I was sagging/ having sweaty boobs. lol I would just base your decision on how you feel without a bra on. I hate having my boobs touch my skin, and it gets hot, so I got a bra. lol Sorry if that was TMI.

That's not TMI... it's exactly what I was looking for :)  I'm not an I, but I'm bigger than a "C."  I just wish I had more experience with this so I could make a better/more informed decision.  I want to trust her abilities, judgement, etc... but I don't want to be paranoid all night, either.

I know from many, many moons ago when I worked at Davids, the seamstresses wouldn't do one larger than a 'C'.  A 'B' was pushing it.  Although, I'm a big girl, and I didn't wear one.  It depends on your dress.

I've only wore cups in any formal dress I've worn & it's so much more comfortable... IMO. Why can't you just take a bra with you and see what is more comfortable & works better with the dress so you can see for youself? I know she's the expert, but she's also not the one wearing the dress all day :)

Pauline mentioned the same thing to me, but I told her I was really uncomfortable with not weraing a bra- and plkus I had purchased one with the dress. She ended up sewing cups into my bra to give me "a little more" and I love it. Just tell her how you feel, ahe'll work with you. GL!

i am right there with you mcmahee. I am a G and met with Pauline last night. She gave me the option, but we both decided I didnt need a thing (my dress has a great corset in it and supports me well). Its all comfort level. She isnt pushy at all and saved me a ton of money by suggesting small alterations that will keep my dress nice and snug all night. You will love her IMO. She is straight forward and not pushy at all.

It's going to depend on your dress, Jen. I had cups sewn in (I'm a B), but I'm still wearing a bra because I needed the midsection support.  But the cups coupled with the bra makes me look a little more full in the bust area!

I am going to have cups sewn in and skip the bra. BUT my dress has a built in corset and I am a 'B'.

Pauline told me the exact same thing.  I'm a "B" and I don't generally go anywhere w/out a bra.  I already have one bought, but if she thinks that the cups will work then I may do it.  But you better believe that bra is also going to be worn.  I need all the help that I can get.  hehe

Wedding dresses are constructed completely differently than most formal dresses.  They have a ton of boning and support in the bodice.  I'm a "D" and I would never even consider wearing any other piece of clothing without a bra, but I'm just doing cups in my wedding dress.  I'm also using Pauline, and she has a bunch of different types of cups for you to try to see which works best for support.

I'm definitely bigger than a "D" but I"m getting cups sewn into my dress, NO BRA(if i could never wear one again, I wouldn't!)My dress is a corset and holds me in just fine.

This post has been SO helpful, as I am having a similar dilemma. I'm looking for a seamstress and a lot of you mention Pauline favorably. Could any of you give me her contact info?
