Unity Candle on the Beach

Hi, there,

Hope your planning is going smoothly. I'm working out my ceremony details and am frustrated that everyone is advising against unity candles on the beach. But sand ceremonies just don't do it for me. And since I'm Jewish and he's not, it would be nice to have an element of his tradition included while we're standing underneath a chuppah.

Has anyone found another solution? I'm not against doing the unity candle at the reception, but I'd still love a non-religious/still traditional custom from Christianity to include in the ceremony itself.

The Cord ceremony: There are three strands one representing you , one representing Christ or Your guiding light, etc. It is wrapped around you, FI, and the 3rd cord hangs down , representatitives from each family can wrap it around you and FI while the officiant reads a scripture, poem , etc. It is also a Filipino tradition.

Also...look into the Rose ceremony.  My friend did this and it was beautiful.

My brother and sister in law tried to do the unity candle at their outside wedding...but it kept going out when the mom's were lighting the candles, so they did it inside at the reception.

@ChislovesBarry -- can you tell me a little more about the Rose Ceremony? Sounds likes something from the "Bachelor!"

@M1ssJ -- thank you for that suggestion, but it is more religious than we want. 

We're looking for something symbolic without prayer or mention of anything that appears in one religion without appearing in the other. Thanks for the idea, though. I'd never heard anything about that!

Oh well, the 3rd cord can represent any 3rd thing like just family, since your parents lay it over you the officiant would just say something out it the first 2 cords being your separate families and the 3rd being your unity
