Help! I need a seamstress. Bought my dress in Colorado.

Hi everyone,

So, I just bought my dress! Woohoo! It's a beautiful, flowy, chiffon greekish style wedding gown. I went to Colorado to buy my wedding dress because my two best friends and mother live up there. I figured it would be easier and cheaper for me to fly up there, rather than have all of them come down to FL for the dress shopping. The only problem is, I bought off the rack and it needs some altering. It mostly just needs to come in an inch or so. I don't think it should be too difficult, but I'm nervous to give my dress to just some random seamstress I find in the phone book. Do any of you know of a good seamstress in the Tampa area? I live near Palm Harbor, so anyone in that area would be really great for convenience purposes, but I'm open to making a drive if it's a good seamstress.

Thanks!

I went to Daisy, let me know if you want her number.

That would be great, Teachermegs! I tried googling her and couldn't find her.

Have any of you ever heard of Olga's Bridal Boutique in Tampa? They came up when I just googled alterations. They say they do a lot of dresses that have been bought elsewhere.

Boderoe - is Rodgers a cleaners place in St. Pete? That's what came up when I googled the name.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys!

Can anyone give me any ideas of what they had done and how much they paid at Daisy's or Stella's? I have been to Stella for a normal dress alteration and thought she was rather pricey for the small amount of work I had done.

Oh good question, NoleBride11! I second that. I am a little scared to find out how much alterations are. I need my dress taken in some in the hips, waist and bust and a back closure fixed. Hope it's not too bad.

For those who need alterations further north - there are only 2 wonderful, magical ladies I will use:

Sonia at Deanna's Bridal  Port Richey, FL 727-849-2074 - you would never believe that an all lace and pearl dress could be dismantled and rebuilt to suit a more well-endowed woman than it was designed for but she made it look like it was made for me.  (This is a designer original and the only one around - of course I fell in love with it!).  Extremely fair pricing!!!

    Or

Yun Lee - Just outside of the JC Penny Store in the Gulfview Mall - Port Richey, 727-843-8558...

she has been working sewing magic for me since I enlistedin the Navy in 2005!  I am a 12 on top and 5 on the bottom, so everything I own has had to be altered if I did not want to look like a little girl playing dress up!  She has produced the most amazing results on everything from my Pea Coat to Ball Gowns!  Unbelievabley UNDERPRICED!

@nolebride11 & hbbdolphi - Daisy is charging me $290 but I am having a lot done.  She is putting cups in the dress as well as an elastic bra type band inside the dress to help keep it up.  She is also taking in a lot at waist & hips, hem and 3 bustles.  To compare, a friend who bought her dress @ CCs in St Pete & having her alterations done @ CCs too is being charged $425 and is not having as much done as I am.  Hope that helps!  The only downside is the Daisy wants cash & I want to charge everything to get points - LOL!

Thanks lynns0606!!  I am literally walking distance from Stella's so I am sooooo tempted to go there to make it easy on myself, but I have heard so many awesome things about Daisy. Guess I could always go get priced at Stella's and then take it to Daisy and see what she says to see what the difference is! I finally got the dress in and it definitely needs work, so I need to make a decision soon!
