Update on Marriage License

Hi All, I put a post up before about not having my marriage license yet and I was freaking out because I need to get all my name change stuff done before I start school (trying to avoid confusion with new students and parents). Anyway, It has been almost 7 WEEKS since my wedding and I still do not have the official license!!! Someone mentioned that they took in their "unofficial" one and the SS office took it, even though they are supposed to, so I tried it - and it worked!! I would suggest you at least try to take in the "unofficial" license when you go to change your name, rather than waiting! I got married in Butler Co... I am sure not all the counties will be this slooooow.

Have you called to check on it? or made sure that your officiant sent it in and filled out everything correctly? I'm in Ham county, but mine took less than 2 weeks. i would be worried that something was wrong.

Oh yes - I have called everyone. Basically Butler Co. told me that they are understaffed so they can only do a few per day. They had no clue how long it would take. I would call again and check, but you cannot talk to a person when you call, only leave a message. It took me three voice mail messages before anyone called me back. Not very user friendly system.

At this point I don't really need my official license anymore...although it will be nice to know that the marriage is legal! :)

Did they give you any hassle at the SS office about it?  I am in the same position (though I haven't waited quite as long!), and it's so frustrating!  I'm thinking I might just try your approach also.

They did not give me any hassle...Not sure if you will have any problems. I went to the SS office in Boone Co. KY where I live, so maybe they were not as used to seeing Butler Co. licenses...who knowsIt is worth a try rather than just waiting...
