Destination wedding advice

We are planning for an October 2012 wedding (only 7 months away, eeekk!!) so needless to say I've been non-stop planning! I'm interested in the Clearwater beach area and wondering if anyone has tips, suggestions, or advice on locations (I'm interested in a beach ceremony and outdoor/patio reception with <50 wedding?

Re: Destination wedding advice

  • Sand Key Beach is quieter - just past Clearwater - just need a permit and you can get married there! :)

Or you can rent out the Clearwater Rec Center if it's not already booked - it's popular! Has a place to get married and a reception area.

  • If you are interested in getting married in Sand Key Park, I think you can have a reception in their picnic pavilions, or you could look into the Clearwater Sailing Center which is just across the stret -- they have a beautiful second story covered deck area that is really nice for receptions.
You also might want to check out Honeymoon Island.  It is a state park just north of Clearwater, and you can have your ceremony on the beach and then rent the pavilion associated with their snack bar/restaurant for the reception.  I looked into this for mine, but I had too many people, I think 50 would fit there.
If you're okay with coming south a little to Indian Rocks Beach/Indian Shores, also check out the Barefoot Beach Resort.  They are across the street from the beach but have a beach access, so you can do the ceremony on the beach and have the reception back across the street either outdoor poolside or indoors in their clubhouse (yay rain backup).
All of those options will likely be more cost effective than the myriad of hotels along on the beach -- though depending on your budget those hotels can be very nice.  LIke the Sheraton Sand Key, the Sand Pearl in Clearwater Beach, etc.
I don't have personal experience with any of these places...I just found them in my research for places to have my beach wedding! Good luck!

    Good luck!
