Destination Advice

I am recently engaged and think I have found the perfect location for my wedding. My family member sent me pictures of this beautiful island they were vacationing on and I fell in love. However, I NEVER thought I would want a destination wedding. I have no idea what I'm supposed to do, what kind of questions to ask, what I need to get done, what I can do to have things completed at the location, etc. If anyone has had/having a destination wedding or has any knowledge in planning one of these, please please please give me any advice you have.     Thinking of Islamorada, one of the Florida Keys islands. It is about 1-1.5 hour drive from the Miami airport if people would like to fly in. It is absolutely beautiful! You should definitely check out some of those islands, they are gorgeous

    Ohh ok, we're planning in Sarasota, on the beach as well. The only thing i can suggest about vendors is to ask girls here on TK, may be on South Florida board, as it's closer to your destination. I would also suggest a wedding planner who is local to the area, and see what and who they recommend for vendors and ideas. Take some time to visit location if you can, and meet with vendors/planner etc. This is your best choice, unless you're doing a lot of DIY and don't need a planner, you still have to research vendors that you want.

    I had a destination wedding.  My biggest recommendation is to hire a local wedding planner.  While they may seem expensive, I got such great deals with the vendors because of her that we made that money back within a month.  They will be able to recommend everything and help you plan.

    Hey there! I live in Philly and I'm getting married in Marco Island FL, so I use both this board and the DW board (under Theme Weddings) for help and ideas. You might want to ask around that board too, if you haven't yet, as there have been lots of FL Keys brides!
