I had a tasting with vonderhaars and my personal opinion was that the meat (i tried both the chicken and beef) was a little dry. I ended up going with http://www.schmidtsmeats.com/they were less expensive and it tasted SO much better. They never freeze their food and it makes a big difference. I actually got the same buffet menu I wanted from vonderhaars (salad, a chicken dish, a beef dish, potato, veggie, & rolls) and was able to add a vegetarian pasta dish and it still came out cheaper. I loved them!

Thanks for the help!  I can now scratch Vonderhaar's and Raffel's off the list:)It seems like I have looked at Cinci Catering before...so I will take a second look.  Never thought of Scmidts Meats - will definitely look into.  Still looking at reception locations as well - if I go with one of the Hamilton County Park locations I will end up having to use their Great Parks Catering.  Any experience with them?

FYI if you have your reception at a park you have to rent every single plate glass fork etc. We're doing our whole wedding at the museum center they have deco catering and its coming out to be a much nicer wedding and cheaper. They have dinnig rooms that are less than 500 dollars to rent.

I would suggest Be Creative Catering. We are on  super tight budget so i went with the best, cheapest option around. We are getting 2 hot entrees, 4 great sides, bread, and disposable tableware for under $2000. We went to a food tasting and the food was amazing!!!! Check them out if you can!

I think she means one of the lodges, like Mill Race, right?  SIL had her reception there a few years ago, and I remember thinking it wasn't anything special, but it was okay.

I wouldn't cross Raffel's off until you taste their food.  We are using Raffel's and I really like their food.  Just my opinion.  Plus, they were AWESOME about working within my very tight budget.  They ended up doing a custom menu for me.

We used Vonderhaar's for our July wedding and thought they were awesome. We had a brunch, which they customized for us (we told them what we wanted and how much we could spend, and they made us a great menu). Every time we mentioned our caterer, people talked about how good their reputation was.Vonderhaar's was also our most "professional" vendor. That is, the easiest to work with, most accomodating, most reliable etc.My suggestion is to schedule a tasting at each place. It is time consuming, but it's the only way to decide if you like the food.
