How did you...

Choose a dj over a band, or vice versa? I want a DJ (I think), but mom wants me to consider a band...I never even considered a band until she brought it up.

I think its based on personal preference.  Some people think that their guests would prefer and/or respond to a band better, others a DJ.  For us it was an easy decision.  Our guest list is pretty small so we knew getting a band wouldn't really make sense.  GL!

We went with a DJ, one because we know someone and two because Mom and Dad had a bad experience.  When they announced the bride and groom's first dance, they played the wrong song. But I think you have to decide what you want.

I went with a band. It was just a personal preference. I thought people would enjoy a band more and would dance more. I used to bartend weddings and I found that bands always went over better, but it depends on your guests. I had a variety of age groups and felt the band appealled more. My band was one of the most complimented parts of my wedding. The dance floor was packed and most of our guests did stick around until the very end. If you get a band just make sure you know what you are getting. Go and listen to them and see how the audience reacts. That is what I did. I ended up hiring Stays In Vegas Band. Also it might come down to budget. Bands are a lot more than most djs. I think it is just a personal preference. Good luck. I would definetly recommend my band if you go with a band.

a DJ was in our price range, a band was not. A good band, anyway. I also felt a band was a little riskier. A DJ will play any genre and song we want.

Just think a band would have to take breaks. A dj could set some songs to a play list so music will still be playing even if he isn't manning the equipment.

I chose a DJ because if a band is having an off night, I'd be miserable.  I'm very picky with music!
