Flower Question

Ok...Maybe I'm just clueless on flowers, but where exactly do you start when looking for your flower venue? I know what kind of flowers I want for the most part, but how do you pick the vendor? Is it all about price once I know what I want or what?

You need to start EVERYTHING with your budget. Figure out how many of each thing you will need (bouts, bouq, centerpieces, etc). Then look at photos of flower bouqs from weddings. THEN look for rec's of good florists. Take them your numbers of what you need, pictures of the flowers and arrangements you love the most, and your budget. Remember to be flexible. Most times we often have bigger eyes than our wallets can handle. A good florist will work with any budget. You just have to be willing to pay for the things that are the most important to you, and to substitute when you can for something cheaper. It's the wedding game we all know and hate. Good luck.

I know what I want and how many I need of everything, but what I'm confused about is: are flowers ONLY about budget? Is there a way to tell who will have the "best looking" flowers ?

You need to establish what you like. Then find a florist who's style matches your own. Then figure out how to get to a middle ground. It's just like picking anything else out.

This is how I did it.  i looked at my budget, I really didn't have an set flower I wanted to use, all I knew was I wanted roses for my bouquet.  So I met with three vendors recommend to me; one I have always used in the past, one the church uses and the third is where my cake is coming from.  I went with the same budget to all three told them what I needed and then sat down to discuss flower options within my budget.  I picked the florist that gave me the most help and the most time.  I was really disappointed in my first choice ( the one I buy flowers from the most) because they left me alone to look at several books and told me to pick from there.  All three were willing to working in my price range once i figured out what I wanted.  But for the most part it was costumer service that made my decision.

I went through something like 8 florists before I settled on one. Everyone discussed my flower preferences with me but until I met with the 8th, no one had given me a straight answer about the quantity of flowers I'd be getting for my centerpieces. I felt like I had to sign a contract blindly if I went with any of them and I wasn't comfortable with that. The florist I picked had no problem putting together a sample centerpiece for me to look at and putting on paper the amount and types of flowers in each centerpiece before I signed a contract. I liked her unfussy straightforward attitude. I feel like looking solely at the final price on the quotes you get could be very misleading because the florist with a slightly higher quote might be giving you twice as many stems of flowers. I haven't heard anyone else on here mention that concern but it was a big deal for me. Although it's probably not a problem if you can find a picture of exactly what you want. Then you know all the quotes are for exactly that. Of course it helps if they can show you a portfolio of their work so you can have confidence in the quality of their work and their taste. And I gotta admit, I always feel better when a vendor is Cinci knottie tested and approved, although my florist was not one of the florists talked about on this board. Keeping my fingers crossed that she will work out and I can recommend her on here.
