dress frustrations

Ok ladies. I've been trying to find my dream wedding dress & i'm ready to give up and walk down the aisle in shorts. I knew it would be difficult because I'm big. I knew dresses wouldn't zip up or close.. but I never dreamed that i would just have to hold it up to me in a mirror and imagine what it looked like.. I'm not comfortable holding a dress up in front of me and then dropping 1,000+ on something I can't try on. What if it comes in and I hate the way it looks on.. then i'm stuck with this dress... I was at CC's yesterday and out of 8 dresses she pulled for me, I had to just hold 6 up in the mirror and pretend I could tell how they would look on... This blows!

I bought my dress from Alfred Angelo in Tampa and they have a collection just for bigger women. I would check them out, they were so helpful. I am 5'1 and this was the only place that sold petite dress sizes. I hope this helps and good luck!

Noooo!  Don't give up!  I know it can be frustrating.
Where have you been so far?  I would agree with jazzy about Alfred Angelo.  They had dresses in all sizes and styles.  Also, David's Bridal carries plus sizes as well.  Have you tried either of those?

    Don't give up!!
I think the PP's gave great suggestions about where to try.  David's Bridal can find local stores that may have a size in stock so that you could go there to try on...you may want to see if they can transfer betweens stores too.  I know they did that for me because they did not have my size in stock (it was brand new and didn't get everything yet) at the time - so I went to another David's to try on.

Also, I think Nordstrom carries plus sizes and that is a store that will cater to you! And Priscilla of Boston has a salon and retail stores (boutiques)  that carry their plus size dresses as well.

I googled plus size bridal salons in Florida & some are in Orlando/Central:

www.casadibellacelebration.com - this got good reviews - small

Good Luck and you will find "THE" dress!!!

I had the opposite problem. I went to Alfred ANgelo's (to try on the ridesmaid dress so I could envision my 3 best friends) and my mom had to hold the back for me. They did have a lovely array of dresses and all at affordable prices! Don't feel bummed- you will know your dress as soon as you see it!

Don't get frustrated this is YOUR day and if the store doesn't carry something that you can put on then move on. It's silly that you have to hold a dress up to you instead of trying it on! That really iriitates me. Try Alfred Angelo like they were saying they have BEAUITFUL dresses and they know that not all women (in fact barely any) wear a size 4!!!

p.s. i'm sure you would look beautiful in shorts too!

I am so sorry that this is so frustrating for you. My suggestion would be to find a bridal shop that carries at least a few dresses in your size, find the style that fits and flatters your body the best and then go from there with browsing catalogs and online galleries.

I bought my dress out of a catalog and do not regret one second of it... I just knew when I saw her that she was the one. Good luck!

Do NOT buy a dress that you can't try on if you ar enot comfortable with that.  When you call to make an appt just tell the people at the bridal salon that you are looking to TRY things on and if they don't have enough of a selection for you to do that than don't waste the time.  I know you will find the one, don't get discouraged!

I would look at Jon's Bridal on Busch Blvd in Tampa. They have tons of dresses in all sizes. www.jonsbridal.com

I tried again today. I set up an appointment for David's Bridal in Tampa. I had a blast!!! I fell in love with 2 dresses there.. Then I called Alfred Angelo since it was down the street, just to see if they could fit me in. So my Mom and I went there  after and I found one strapless I really liked as well... I went from having no options to wanting to buy 3 separate dresses!.. LoL.. I'm super excited though. Thank you all for the encouragement and kind words.
