Intro & Reception Questions

Hi everyone! I've been reading the Cincinnati board for awhile and have gotten some great tips but have never posted anything so I decided now would be a good time to introduce myself! My name is Courtney, and I'm getting married December 31, 2010... seems like forever away! I know New Year's Eve is a busy time for parties so I'm trying to book everything really early so I don't miss out. After reading many good reviews and doing a lot of comparing we finally decided on Receptions in Fairfield for our reception location. We decided on the Fairfield room because we liked the setup of the room, and it is green, which is our wedding color...perfect! However, when we called to book the room we were told the owner had decided to book his annual New Year's Eve party in the Fairfield room, but we could have the Buckeye Butler room. We didn't like the room that much because it seems chopped up, the walls are an ugly pink color, and there are big poles in the middle of the room. However, it has its own entrance and private bathrooms, and we were told that all of the staff would pick this room for their own weddings so apparently we're not seeing the potential. Soooo...I'm looking for anyone who has used Receptions or had their reception in the Buckeye Butler Room...just some opinions to ease my mind! Thanks so much, and I look forward to getting lots more great tips for my wedding from the board in the next year and a half!

Welcome to the boards! IMHO, trust your gut instinct. If you didn't like the room, keep looking around. It wouldn't sit well with me that they would turn down your business for an internal party and actually tell you that. Not very good sales, if you ask me.First, are you open to a different date? maybe you could see what other dates are available for that specific room. If you have your heart set on that date, like I said, keep looking. You've started your search early and I feel like you have some time to look.  Maybe you'd be open to posting what your looking for in price, capacity, location, etc and we could help with other ideas.HTH!

If your looking in the Fairfield area, have you tried Tori's station? The front room is a green color and has a real party feel to it. We were really close to using it, but decided with 20th century instead, which would be another great location for a new year's eve wedding. GL!

Hi Courtney! I got married in June and had our reception at the Buckeye Butler Room at Receptions in Fairfield. I understand your hesitation, but IMO the Buckeye Butler room is the best one there. For one, you don't share an entrance with another event (it is the only room there where you have a private entrance). Secondly, you don't share a bathroom with other guests. I realize you mentioned these already, but believe me - they really do make the difference! As for the color, it really didn't bother me. When the lights are dimmed, you can't tell what color the walls and carpet are anyways. Never once did I even notice the color of the walls and carpet, truthfully! I also like the fact that the dance floor is smack in the middle of the room, so the tables are all surrounding it. As for the poles... when it comes time to come up with the seating plan, they make sure there are no poles blocking anyone's view. They will work with you, however you wish. I just really like this room compared to the other two because it's more intimate. If you have any other questions, let me know!

Thanks so much for the feedback. I'm pretty much set on Receptions and definitely set on New Year's Eve. After thinking about it for a couple days I realized that the room will be fine...it was just my initial disappointment getting in the way of seeing the potential. I can put my own touch on the room with my decorations & I'm sure it will be great!  Andrea&Scott...it's really great to get an opinion from someone who has actually used the room. The wall was closed when I initially looked at the room so I couldn't get the full effect so I definitely need to go back when it's set up for a wedding. I knew if all the employees favored the room then it must be great. And I may be contacting you some more in the future if I have any questions about the room! Thanks again!

I'm glad I could be of help! Yes, definitely go see the room when it's set up for a wedding, with both rooms opened up. I'm not sure if you are doing a receiving line, but we did one with just the bride and groom and our parents. The way the room is set up was nice because the six of us stood in the lobby while guests walked in to the lobby through one entrance, we welcomed them, and then they walked out the other entrance and to the buffet. It flowed very well. Not sure if you have booked a DJ yet, but we used Rhett Frambes with DJ Butler. He's been there several times to DJ, and he did absolutely amazing! Let me know if you have any other questions. you can email me at muboomer@yahoo.com
