Im using di's delights. She is reasonably priced and her strawberry champagne cake flavor is out of this world!

Publix.  Half the price, great taste, low delivery charge and if you don't want to pay the delivery charge, they will package the cake and you can pick it up yourself.

I second Let Them Eat Cake in South Tampa.  Our venue has them as a preferred vendor (and includes their cake in the price!).

Their cakes were so good during our tasting.  They also have amazing cheesecake, if that is your thing.  My FI, who doesn't like cheesecake, insisted on having a layer of our cake as cheesecake because it was so good.

Im getting mine through Chef Nelson. He is in Palm Harbor right next to Delectables. I tried Let The Eat Cake and Publix Greenwise in Tampa, but they were both very expensive. Chef Nelson is a smaller shop, but he is very flexible on design, doesn't upcharge you for every little thing (like most bakeries do) and the cake flavors are soooo good! He was also the least expensive place we went, which was important to me, but without sacrificing quality.

    Good luck!!  :-)

Chef Nelson. Cheapest around. Tastes great. Look always slightly imperfect, has no communication, but I've heard you can trust him to deliver.

I used Chef Nelson and it was a huge mistake. I didn't want any design or complicated tiers. Just 3 plain white tiers. I bought the ribbon and made the topper and he still managed to screw things up. Unbelivable.

He lost the swarovski crystal topper that I made and I'm waiting for him to return my crystal banding. He added a design at the base of the tiers that I did not want.

If you are using him. Please get EVERYTHING in writing! This is the only vendor that I was disappointed with. Waited until 3 days before the wedding to tell me that they didn't have all the materials which I had dropped off 2 weeks before the wedding.

I didn't try other bakers since I had a family friend making the cultural cake (black cake). If you want her contact number let me know.

chescam, you're killing me. That is horrible news. And for MissJ -- you can't pin him down to get anything in writing as chescam suggests (we've been hounding him to make a small change via email and phone since we visited his "studio" from Chicago in Feb -- 9 months ago), so I now would un-recommend Chef Nelson.

I've heard Cakes by Carolynn in St Pete is expensive but fantastic.

Someone told me about "Chocolate Pie" today.  I haven't ever heard of them, but the bride was raving about them.

Also check out L'Arstian Cake Atelier. It's a family-owned business in Lutz, and the cakes are the best that I've ever had. The amaretto cake with strawberry filling is to die for.
