Reception Decor Checks!!! PIP

Decided to do some DIY for some of my beach decor.  Although I can't take the credit...My moms friend did all the painting and crackling.

My card box:  I wanted to do something different, and I got this idea from fellow west coast knottie Melissa1273.  I bought two small crates from ACMOORe and had them hinged together, then painted.  The crates allowed for a natural card slit, and we just added a lock.    The crackle effect matches my family sign I had made.

My postcard box: we are doing post cards for our guest book, and I wanted to have a place to put them once people have filled them out.  Found this also at ACMOORE, had it painted and crackled.

Lastly, we bought two trays from ACMoore, had a piece of wood fitted to close up the side handles, and we are using them to put sand in to display our starfish escort cards.  Also painted.

So glad to have these things done.....only 38 days left!!!

Postcards for the guestbook sound awesome! how does it work? are you going to put them in an album or something after?

I am looking at Guest book ideas now, can't seem to find anything that I LOVE yet! But this could be it!!

I am going to put them in album I think! I collect postcards and keep them in a box (nothing exciting), but now that this will be my guestbook I'm going do something "nicer" with them. I ended up buying vintage Valentine's Day postcards and various other "love" cards!

What are you going to do mbathey? What kind of postcards are you using?

I am just using regular local postcards.  My mom has been getting them from the Dollar Stores in Brandenton and Sarasota.  We got enough for each guest to write a note on, AND to put one or two in the OOT bags.  We are going to have everyone write a nice note, funny story or piece of advice.  Then my mom is going to send out batches at a time, so FI and I will ge tthem at home a few weeks later sporatically.  We will have something fun to look forward to each week, and then I will HOPEFULLY put them in some kind of book (we'll see if that happens) but i definitely plan on keeping them.

I was going to order postcards from Zazzle.com, ( you can get them from almost ANYWHERE).  I was going to get postcards from all the places he and I have been together, but ultimately just decdied to do florida.  I think ill be displaying the messages more than the card anyway.

I really like the Vintage Vday cards!  THat is so cool!  I actually looked at "vintage" postcards on Zazzle (fake obviuosly).  LOVE That idea

Ooohhh I love the local postcard idea -- especially since you do not live here. That's a really cute idea about having your mom mail them to you.

Question, how are you displaying the instructions? If you are? Are you making a little sign that says "Please leave words of wisdom" or something like that?

Yes I plan on leaving instructions, but haven't exactly nailed it down yet.  I am planning on having my maid of honor (who is great at graphic design) make signs that match.....guest book, flip flop basket, donation card, etc.

Id like the sign to say something like this :
    1) Post Cards from Paradise These cards are being used in place of a traditional guestbook, so please impart your advice and well wishes to the newly weds. When you are done, drop the card in to the box. The postcards will be mailed later this week!
    or
    2) Please leave us a note, please drop us a line, add advice on marriage, to stand the test of time.

Weddings are more than just dresses and rice, So pick up a pen and write us some advice!
From each of your experiences comes a very special gift,
A piece of hidden knowledge that we didn’t know exists. Please share with us your wisdom about marriage, love and life; How to be a loving husband, or to be the perfect wife. Please write your thoughts and wishes to share with us for life For the greatest gift of all is the gift of your advice.
