Did you actually hear...

your DJ perform before you hired him? I don't know why I am having such a hard time with this! The DJ is my last big hire. I think I am struggling because the music is such an important part of a good party, and I don't have any personal experiences with any local DJs. (Brian Childs, who is so widely recommended on here, is not available on my date). I didn't grow up in Cincinnati, and most of my FI's family used bands at their receptions, so I am stuck! We have a meeting with McFadden soon. FMIL really thinks we should hear a DJ before we hire them, and I am sure it would increase my comfort level. But do people really do that? Did/Has anyone else struggled with this? And am I being crazy?? :) Thanks!

Mark McFadden is a good dj.  In fact if you are dead set on hearing them before you hire them, he dj's at some clubs around town.  I know the format isn't exactly the same as a wedding but you will be able to get an idea.As long as a dj is recommended and you can meet with them before your wedding (and you get an idea of their personality), I think you would have a good idea of what to expect.

I am using Mark McFadden, but have never heard him DJ. I went off of recommendations and other girls on the Knot. I just like his style. DJ Butlers was nice, but the guy we met with was too involved. I want a DJ that can pack the dance floor and not talk on the mic all night long. Good Luck.

We didn't hear our DJ perform. It didn't matter to us, but I don't think you're crazy. You should go on recommendations from this board. So far, they haven't let me down!
