Wedding Update Wednesday

Not too much this week... just waiting on the last one or two addresses so I can send out my save the dates.  We did send out 1 so far!  (It's to FI's friend in England and will take about a week and a half to get there...)

We met with AAA to get information about our honeymoon!  ...I wasn't going to, since I don't think we can go right after the wedding... but FI is very excited about this, so I figured it doesn't hurt to get info.  We think we found where we want to go... and agreed maybe to wait until February which would work well for both of us.  (He's a teacher, so he'll have a week break and I get my vacation days renewed in February.)  Now I'm pretty excited too, and we're thinknig of doing a registry with AAA toward the honeymoon.  I know some people think that's basically asking for money... but we're going to post up specific excusions people can pay toward or like a couple's massage so it's not like people are just giving money for the trip in general.

I also am hoping to start up a blog... I started it almost a year ago, and only had 1 post... and then posted another like yesterday lol to make a whopping 2.  Maybe I should add that to my New Years resolution.  :P

Anywho, what have you guys done?

Re: Wedding Update Wednesday

  • The weeks are merging together so I can't remeber what happened this week versus last week- we did meet with a florist who hgave us a great price, we will probably go with them, but want to meet with one other before we commit. Out of curiosity- what range did you ladies spend on your flowers- I know it is different for everyone, and if you don't feel comfortable sharing obviously thats fine! I'm just wondering where we compare to others- our guy quoted around $1000, which seems reasonable, but my sister only spent about $600 so I'm not sure....

Also, finalizing invitations- you ladies ordering yours make me nervous as I think my wedding is before yours!?! EEK!

Oh- I also ordered another wedding dress- I should've stopped looking but J crew was having an awesome sale, and I couldn't help myself. So It will come today and I'll try it on- if I love it, I'll return the other for store credit, if not I'll stick with the original and return this one!

I am also debating about providing transportation for my guests or not- can any of you share your experiences or decisions on having shuttles?? I want it but nobody else seems to think it is necessary!
  • Didn't do too much this week. FI and I are doing A TON of wedding ring shopping. He just can't seem to find anything he likes, and I want something two-toned, which limits my selection unless I get something custom made.

We found a photographer and DJ that we plan on meeting with about using their services.

Is anyone going to go to the huge bridal expo at Drivers Village this weekend? I'm hoping to get some ideas for the rest of our planning.

I finished the invitations today. FI butted into my system "to make things easier" and he ended up flustering me and I messed some up. Love him to pieces, but sometimes he complicates my life ;)

Tonight we start our Pre-cana at our Church. I think tonight we are basically just meeting with our priest to start to plan the wedding and such. It should go well, even though I am a little nervous. Our priest and my step-dad have known each other since high school, and he has been over to our house before for hamburgers and beer, but I can't help feeling a "bad catholic"....

This weekend we go to the DoubleTree (our reception venue!!!) for their annual "Bridal Tea".  It is basically a bridal show for couples who are have booked their reception at the hotel and to try the food from their 2012 menu. Very excited about that :) Anyone else going?

To get done in the next 1.5 week before school starts again...cut tissue paper for invites, order FI wedding band, think about the menu, and get into contact with the DJ (seeing as we haven't spoken with him since Nov, 2010.)

    Sorry for the novel!

  • We booked the bakery :) Sent the Save the Dates out! Started working on the wedding programs. Added 25 people to the wedding guest list :( Looked at setting up pre-cana - haha bad catholic. And felt a little overwhelmed with the list a mile long of things to still complete.

We are also going to the Double tree this weekend! Very excited about that!

  • kpdorr- I had the same question about flowers since it seems to vary wildly depending on what you get. I'm paying $85 for bridesmaids and like $180 for the bride bouquets. I have big, showy flowers and not a lot of filler, so I'm sure there are other flower options out there that would be cheaper. I just told my florist my budget and she said what she could do for that. I think most florist are flexible like that :)

This week we started pre-marriage counseling, which I didn't really like. I feel like I was lectured for not following traditional gender roles. Like I was only setting myself up for disappointment by expecting FI to help with wedding planning. She actually said it's for me to do with my friends without any involvement from him. That makes me angry. I'm not marrying myself! Just because I'm a woman, doesn't mean I love collecting addresses, making seating charts and reworking our budget with every decision. There's a lot of sh*t to be done, and he can help!

In other more positive news, I bought a new dress for my shower or rehearsal. I'm not sure which I'll wear it for. The Limited is clearing out their wedding dresses, so if you need a white dress, I'd check out! their website!

  • I made a list of every possible detail that we need to take care of and task we need to accomplish over the next 8 months. Since it's a tad overwhelming, we've developed a weekly wedding to-do list where we'll give ourselves from Monday to the following Sunday to finish that week's objectives.

One of the things we can cross off the list is emailing friends about booking hotel rooms (even though it seems crazy because the wedding is still many months away). One of the hotels closest to our venue is almost entirely booked - not just our block, but the whole darn hotel. Luckily, it sounds like our friends have booked!
