Cake

Okay, so I'm not really a fan of cake. That being said, I loooooove coconut cake, and was considering it for the wedding. My mom basically called me an idiot for wanting a coconut cake for an October wedding. I tried to compromise, suggesting we have a coconut layer and do the rest pumpkin spice, and she acted as if I wanted to serve puppy ears or something.

Am I crazy, or can I tell her she is?

I never really thought about the cake as having to match the season.  I'm just a couple of weeks before you and we certainly don't have a "fall cake" -- we're just having chocolate with almond flavored buttercream!

I think you should get what you want and if that's coconut, so be it!  I don't know how popular coconut is with your average guest though, so maybe the different layers thing is a good idea.

Im not all about matching to seasons, Josh definitely is, so I can understand what your mom is saying.

Have you ever thought of doing cupcakes instead of cake? That way you could have a few different flavors and your guests could chose. Just a thought. I had a cupcake tower and everyone loved it.

But if thats not something you wanna do, I would definitely do a layer thing. I know a few people who HATE coconut and you dont want those people to be left out ya know?

Funny that you bring this up because I never really thought of it either. We are doing cakes as centerpieces with a variety of flavors, but one is going to be strawberry...which I guess is more of a summer flavor.  Honestly, I would say if you like it go with it....but maybe just that one layer..because not everyone enjoys coconut.  I also really like the cupcake idea from PP though too!

FI wanted pumpkin cupcakes as one of our flavors and I told him no because we're having a summer wedding, so I can see where your mom is coming from too.  If you get one coconut layer, I think that would be a good idea.  Some people are big fans of coconut no matter what the season!

Yeah that's why I suggested doing the different layers, but when I wanted to have some coconut and some pumpkin she just thinks that is the craziest combo ever. Would people think I was totally insane to have those as my options? It's not like I want to do a pumpkin cake with coconut frosting.

I think different layers is a great compromise.  We did two layers of white/strawberry and one of chocolate/chocolate.   Best of both worlds.

I personally would love coconut... or pumpkin... or any kind of cake.  Your mom should cool it a bit... it's just cake.  Tongue out

My thoughts exactly! Especially because if I had it my way, we would skip the cake and have more appetizers or something. I would rather eat stuffed mushrooms than cake any day.

Mixing it up sounds like the best option. I'd also thing about throwing in a basic favorite. I know many people wouldn't like either coconut or pumpkin. Maybe vanilla, chocolate?
