Officiant $

What are you paying (or did you pay) for your priest, minister, JP, etc?  The minister of the church we go to is performing our ceremony, but we've never talked about money and I feel weird bringing it up now.  She doesn't do that many weddings, so I doubt she has a regular fee anyways.  So what do you think is normal for CNY?

We tipped our minister $100. Money was never brought up for us either. Im not sure if thats good or bad but thats what we did. It was kinda all we could afford, but he also came in and ate with us, so maybe with food added in?

    Sorry Im not too helpful.

Ours was $400... I actually thought (for some reason) that it was only going to be $200... oh well.  That was for the church and the organist (Holy Familoy in Camillus)... and I guess the pre-cana, too.

I know the Basillica is like $800 or maybe even $1K... huge money.

It really depends on the services provided.  A Catholic ceremony is quite long and quite involved (full mass, eucharist, pre-cana, alter servers, coordinator at the church, organist, etc...)...

If I had to venture a guess, I would say a short ceremony w/ a JP or minister would probably run about $100ish... but I would definitely just ask.  You wouldn't want any surprises on the day of when they are expecting to be paid, ya know?  We had a slight "oops" where we thought DH's parents were going to pay (oops, duh) the priest (ok, they said they were going to pay the priest)... and we found out a few weeks later at mass that they had not.  I was mortified.  Definitely check ahead.

Interesting.  I was thinking around $200-$250 for a service that will run about 30 min so your responses make me happy.  (Service is not at the church so there are no rental/music fees on that end.)  Plus she and her husband are invited to the rehearsal dinner and reception.  Next time we meet with her, I'll see if there's a good opportunity to just ask.

I think ours is costing $250. She has to travel to Oswego, and isn't charging extra for travel. We are meeting with her next Wedesday .. at Denny's haha

The church where we are getting married charges $100 for the officiant if you aren't a member, no fee if you are. They also charge other fees as well (custodial fee, musician fee, rental fee, etc.), but again the costs vary depending on if you belong to the church or not.

We are paying $300 for our officiant but I think some of that include travel costs as she is traveling from Rochester to Penn Yan
