R.S.V.P.'s

I got my first two R.S.V.P.'s back in the mail today.  One yes and one no. I am a little different than most brides...I get excited when I see a "No" response...we are way over my expected guest list (wanted 100, currently at 145...and Dad seems to think he can add everyone he talks to these days-but he is paying for the recpetion so invite away!).

Anyway....to those of you who are not to the point of sending out invites I HIGHLY recommend numbering your R.S.V.P.'s . (number each card and keep a numbered list yourself when you send them out).  It takes a few extra minutes, but right now I would have NO idea who the regret was if I didn't number it!!!!

I definitely ditto Kadell's idea for numbering...although I've lucked out and everyone has filled out their names so far.

I have my Excel spreadsheet with the name and number and a yes or no column. Then I put the responses in a basket so I don't lose them.

I have an excel sheet too! I am also using it to keep track of meal choices, and once we do the seating chart, I will put table numbers on there as well. When we do events for work, this is how we keep track of RSVPs and it makes things so much easier.

We think ALOT alike....right before I got back on...I said "Hmmm...where am I going to keep these so they don't get lost?"  Then I decided to pull a basket out from our wedding mound (the one that almost reaches the ceiling in the back bedroom now)and put them in the basket in the office so they don't get lost!!!

Do you guys think the spreadsheet is easier to use then the knot's list?  The only reason I like the list on the knot is I can access it from anywhere since it's online...like from work, from my parent's house, or anywhere for that matter.

I didnt number mine bc my mother insisted it was more unnecessary work and I was a mass of confusion when people opted to ignore the "Whats you name" line. DHs family has 4 Johns in the family and I had a reply come back that simply said "John" uh duh. And you are which one?!

*Thats where the quote in my siggy comes from*

I highly suggest numbering it may be a little extra work but oh good god is it helpful.

I personally like the excel spreadsheet, but that's just because they are a part of everything I do for work and making one is like second nature to me. If the one on here works for you, then I would stick with it.

As for the keeping the RSVP cards, I bought a little index card box that I put them in as we get them. It has alphabet tabs, so it's easy to find one if I need to double check it or anything like that.

I like the Excel sheet a lot because I'm familiar with Excel and the Knot's looked complicated, plus with the wonkiness of the Knot I'd rather have something that I won't lose.

I have mine in numeric order in my basket..I have a room like your room Kadell. It's our guest room/wedding room. One day I got so sick of all the boxes/stuff that I organized each box by ceremony, reception, paper, etc. So now when I go in there I know what box is what. :)

Yup...organization was next on my to do list!  Right now it's all just a huge pile and when I am looking for something it means tearing the whole mountain down...which is getting very old now!

Bridgett-my family, God love them, just has no etiquette!  I'm pretty sure they have no idea what that line is actually for (maybe it divides the response card is half?!?!)  So I knew going into this I would be better off numbering them like my anal retentive coworker suggested (who by the way is the reason I have gotten much better about my thank you cards then I ever was before!)

I made an excel spreadsheet.. it seemed easier for me, and then I saved it as a google doc. I LOVE google docs, because they can be accessed from anywhere, and can be shared with certain people that you choose also.
I did the index card box thing for sorting. Our RSVP due date is Friday, and we are still waiting on about 25 RSVPs. Undecided

Stupid question..how do I save it as a "google doc"?
  • edited December 2011
I'm sure there is more than one way to do it, but this is how I do it. I log in to my google account (I have gmail). So if you don't have gmail, you should open a g-mail email, to start, or have a google homepage.
Along the top of the page, it gives me a list of things - and one of those is documents. Click on it, and it brings you into google docs, then you can click on "create new". You can then choose after making the document, who you'd like to share it with (you just add their email addresses), and if you want them to be able to only view it, or be able to edit it as well.
If you have gmail, when you open something that someone emails to you as an attachment (as opposed to saving it, when you just open it) it will automatically open it as a google document, and you can then save it that way!

I've never heard of that or would have thought of it before reading these boards, but the very first time I read it I made a mental note as a "must do."  :)
