Want to get my groove on

Hi all,
  I'm one of those lurkers you all talk about. My name's Sarah, and I've been casually checking out this board on and off for the past few months. I'm having my wedding at Turning Stone in August, and it's slowing coming together. My next big project is figuring out the music. My dad is set on having a band, because he loves to dance and wants the atmosphere that comes with live music. We checked out on band in the Ithaca area, and it wasn't for us. I was wondering if anyone had a band at their wedding, or is planning on having one? I'm having the worst time finding one that fits what we want (maybe a mix of classic stuff and some more modern covers).

Because of my terrible luck with finding a band, I've starting looking at DJs. So far I've gotten price estimates from Black Tie Entertainment and Showcase Sound. Does anyone have any experience with either of these two companies?? I'm also interested to hear other recommendations.

I look forward to hearing from you all, and I'm glad I finally broke my silence!

    Nice reception pick I work in the marketing dept at turning stone! 

    My SIL went with a string quartet which was very nice but I like to dance so I went with Whirlin disc dj. Good price and they did a great job. Also DJ Bill T from Oneida area plays at turning stone ALL the time. He does all our VIP events and employee events. He plays everything. GL! :)

    I won't be of any help on the band... but we are going with Ken Paradise from Paradise Entertainment.  SOOOO excited to have him.  He DJ's on the radio and does weddings for fun.  Can't wait.
    I know there are some older posts that have lots of DJ suggestions...

    If you give me a day or two...FI was best man in a wedding in August and I LOVED the band they had. Ill try and find out who it was.

    Other than that I got nothing, my DJ was someone I knew and he stopped answering my calls and emails. So Im starting from square 1. Ugh.

    Vendors are not allowed.

    Vendors pretending to be brides so they can advertise is also not allowed.

    Oh come on Terry. At least try to make yourself look like a real bride! And Im curious...is Terry a man or woman? B/c the "SO" is Jayne. So lesbians perhaps? Or Terry is a boy and thinking he can get on here and promote himself?
