Dress makers...

Hello, Im from the syracuse area. Does anyone know of any dress makers around? I am willing to drive if I have to i am just hitting a wall finding one. It would be great if you have reviews to. I want to have my dressed made but im nervous about getting bad work..

I haven't heard of any dress makers really... someone told me Spybaby can custom any dress and they were very happy with how their dress came out... but otherwise I don't know of a dress maker that will make it from scratch.

I know a seamstress in Rochester, but I don't think she's at the level to make a wedding dress. She does more Halloween costume/ hemming work. I would ask someone else in the business if they can reccommend someone. Maybe a custom-suit boutique? I know we have a couple of those in Rochester and they're easier to find on google than a dress-maker.

I'd check out the Melissa James dress salon at Fayetteville Towne Center. I was in there the other week, and they have this really unique, exquisitely beaded dress on display that the owner said he made for his daughter's wedding many years ago. They also sell higher-end designer gowns (Amsale, Priscilla of Boston, etc.), so it may be a little pricey to have anything done there. Good luck!

Thanks so much for the help! Im going to check into Melissa James and see what they can do for me. What Im hoping to have done is a replica of a designer dress that Im in love with but extremely over budget. Hopefully I can get a good deal.

The woman who did the alterations for my dress and Brigett's dress (and lots of both of our BMs) also makes dresses (I think).  She would be extrememly afforable, I'm sure.  (Just an example, she did all of my alterations, bustle, take in, bra cups on an extremely detailed dress for like $50.  NYB wanted to charge me $100ish for the bustle alone)

Her name is Mary Golden.  She is a little odd about appointments which I would be happy to explain.  If interested, let me know and I will get you her phone number.  (does not do email or have website)
