XP: Wife Chop

Anyone planning to do it?  Done it?  If so... got pictures?

I grew my hair out with the hopes of having long, lucious curls on my big day (that fell to crap when we had a freak heat wave in Syracuse.  Hair up up UP and off my neck/out of my face!!!!!)

So... Now my hair is about down to the middle of my back.

Stick straight and won't hold a curl to save my life.  I have been contemplating the "wife chop" but I can't remember the last time I had short hair (short to me, BTW, is anything above shoulder length).  Also, I am so NOT a morning person and any style that requires dry hair/5+ minutes of my time in the morning is just not happening.

Whaddaya think?  Did you do it?  Do you like it?  How short did you go (or planning to go)?  Any regrets?

I'm chopping mine afterwards!  I've had short (above the shoulders) hair for the past few years.  I started growing it out in October.  I can't wait to have it short again!  For me, it's way easier to manage when it's short.  And when it's long I always seem to be throwing it up into a ponytail.

And FI actually prefers the shorter hair!

This is a before and after from a couple of years ago. If I could just blowdry my hair and have it straight I would have been fine with it, but to blow dry and then straighten is/was a pain. It didn't really take that much less time. The real problem was that I HATED how it looked curly, which is how I usually wear it

Have you chopped it before? I kept tucking it under to see how it would look, so maybe try that first. What does the hubby think? FI kept telling me he likes long hair, but I did it anyway! Regretted it about 2 days after lol I see so many cute short styles though, and if it was straight naturally I would probably have it short

I LOVE the short style on you CD!!!  I think I would like a cut like that on mine, but I am afraid it would just end up limp and flat.  pfffff.

I have chopped it before (did locks of love last year)... but only to about my shoulders... such a sissy.  Fi could care less either way.  I am super neurotic about hair cuts (prefer a glass of wine before the scissors hit my end so I don't act like a weirdo in the chair)

Sarah- mine ends up soaking wet in a pony tail or messy bun every. single. day.  lol.  Half of the time, it's still soaking wet at the end of the day b/c it's been up all day.  lol.  So lazy.

I'm not a wife yet... but I chop off my hair about every 2 years to donate it then let it grow out again.  I cut it about 6 months ago, and am waiting until after the wedding to cut it again, but definitely will... I'm too lazy about my hair and just keep it in a bun or ponytail anyway.  If you feel it's just getting to be a pain, I'd say go for the chop!  :P

If you cut it so it's just long enough to go into a ponytail, you don't have to worry about blow drying or styling or anything either.

If it's at least 10 inches that you're cutting you can donate it.  Some places even give you a discount if you let them know ahead of time you're donating it.  :)

As soon as the wedding stuff is over....away goes my hair.  I normally
have long hair, but like bitofrits I usually cut it every couple of years...and I am aching to do it NOW...but my wedding hairstyle is like this:

And this is what I want after....

Not sure about the whole "bang" thing....and it's a tad bit shorter than I really want....or this is my second option:

Oooh... like the second pic, Kadell... maybe I will go for something like that.  I just don't know if mine will have that much body to it.  So cute though.  Maaaybe I can become friends with my blow dryer (still in the box that I bought it in 2 years ago)... ok maybe not.  lol

Mine wouldnt be a wife chop. My hair jumps from really long to really short (it was once short enough to spike 1/2 an inch in the back with longer side bangs). Its had all every sort of angle and layer. And Ive been everything from blonde to black (never fully redhead tho). So to cut my hair after the wedding wouldnt be anything special...but Im looking forward to keeping it longer.

Mousse can give you TONS of volume...if you want to avoid the hairdryer!

Geesh...ok...here's my last suggestion then...every half hour or so...tip you head over and brush you hair. That gives volume without the heat or stickyness :)

I love that first picture of short hair, Kadell.  I just saved it and I'm going to show that to my stylist after the wedding!  Thanks!

No problem :)   This recent hot weather we've been having is really making me rethink this whole long hair thing!

Monica, I could picture yours short, I think it would be cute!  I personally am best friends w/my blowdryer though because otherwise my hair is a wavy, frizzy mess! Kadell, I like both those pics!
