Introducing myself.

Ok so I am certainly not new to The Knot or other Boards but I have only been reading posts on this Board. Just thought I would finally introduce myself instead of lurking.

My fiance and I are both from the southern tier of NY... close to Elmira. We currently live in central TX and are planning our September 3rd wedding from afar!! We rely heavily on our families for this wedding so it will be interesting seeing it all put together when we arrive that weekend! Lol. We are getting married at The Barn in Willseyville NY which is between Owego and Ithaca (closer to Ithaca). I am seeing it for the first time this weekend when I am up for my bridal shower! Has anyone seen this place? Yeah I put a deposit down on a place I have never seen. My mother and his mother like it though so we shall see!

So anway... any southern tier knotties around?

Welcome!  I grew up in Horseheads, and lived in Syracuse for 4 years before moving out to MA.  I've never been to The Barn, but it sounds like a nice venue!  I'm like you, depending on my mom a lot to help out because I live out of state.  She loves helping though lol.

I just looked it up, and it's very similar to the place where I am getting married I never pictured myself getting married (well, having the reception) in a barn (or at all for that matter really lol) but when I went to the place I am getting married I fell in love with it!

Thanks, guys! I am certainly excited about coming home this weekend to escape the disgusting heat of Texas! 105 degrees today... no joke.

kks471, my hometown is Waverly so not very far from Horseheads at all! It is nice to know others that are planning weddings out of state. It can be interesting at times.

CD2011, yeah I never really thought about a barn either until acquaintance of mine got married at the venue I picked and I saw her pictures! I thought it was beautiful so I jumped on it and it so in my price range! Can't wait to actually see it on Sunday!

Well glad I have a place to vent and get ideas from people who know the general area! Thanks, ladies!

Welcome to the board.....I am a newbie also.  I grew up in Towanda, PA,(Bradford County) just across the border from where you grew up.  I am not familiar with the venue you have picked out but totally love all that the Ithaca area has to offer.  I also am planning a wedding from afar (although only across NY state rather than across the country!)....Good Luck and happy planning.  Enjoy your shower this weekend

Hi!  I live in Ithaca and my wedding is at the Fontainebleau Inn (between Ithaca & Watkins Glen).  Hope your visit goes well and that you love the Barn!

I'm in a very similar boat to you in that FI is from Rochester and I'm from NJ but we both now live in Nebraska and are planning our wedding at his parent's cottage on Keuka Lake and a reception in NJ.  Both our parents/families are doing a lot of work for us.  I'm a bit less worried on the wedding because I have been to their cottage before but the restaurant where we'll be having dinner afterwards was completely them and I'm hoping they have good food (I'm sure it does).  My parents scouted places for the NJ reception and I just went with their opinion when deciding where to have that.  Sadly we don't have in our budget to really go to either place prior to the events so it will definitely be interesting.  Luckily though, the internet/skype/email are wonderful things that have been key in helping us plan.

Hi there!
My fiance and I live just a few towns away from The Barn.  We're considering having our reception there, but haven't been to see it yet.  I've heard that some people have had a heard time with the owner, so I'm a little skeptical.
I think the rustic barn would be perfect for our down to earth- simple/elegant feel that we're going for.

Has anyone seen The Barn in Willseyville before?  Or has anyone dealt with these people before?  I've tried calling a few times and every time it goes to voice mail.  I had already left a message with the owner to call me back so we can discuss catering options and haven't heard back yet.  Anyone know if they do cater?
At this point if I don't hear back soon I think we'll have to rent tents, tables, chairs, and the whole shebang to do the wedding in a field my fiance's family owns... but I didn't want to go through that hassle.

Thanks in advance for anyone that has any info.  I'm in early planning so I guess I can always either keep calling and pick a new theme/decor.

Larissa, where are you having your NJ reception? I'm just curious because I looked at a lot of places down here (before deciding most weren't in my budget).
